Babe and Doc fell asleep in each other's arms. They both woke up smiling and still holding hands with fingers intertwined. The snow was falling lightly and the cold winter wind blew in the night. The snow began to fall harder and they covered the foxhole opening with a blanket and used a flashlight to use as a light. They got close to each other again, and smiled. Doc pulled out an army chocolate bar and pulled off the wrapping. He then broke it into two and gave one half to Babe. The two then just sat there, eating their chocolate and then started talking about life after the war.
"So Doc, what're you gonna do after the war?" "Eh I don't know, definitely going back to Louisiana, but probably gonna get a farm and live out in the country."
"Yeah? That sounds nice. Can I join you?" Babe asked. Doc smiled, "I'd love that, Babe."Babe smiled in return and Doc grabbed Babes face and brought it close to his and smiled, "I'd really, love that." Then Doc proceeded to kiss Babe. He then pulled his face away, along with his hands. "Sounds like a plan, Doc"
They went back to holding hands, intertwining fingers and smiling. A minute or two later, a Sargent that was looking for Babe, flipped open the blanket above them. Doc and Babe looked up, drawing their hands apart quickly. "Babe, come'n. We're going on patrol and we need ya. So grab your rifle and helmet and let's move." The Sargent said. "Alright, gimme a minute I'll be there in a moment." Babe replied.
Babe then grabbed his helmet and grabbed some extra ammo clips for his M1 rifle. Babe then kissed Doc on the cheek and put on his helmet. "I'll be back, Doc. See ya soon." Doc smiled and said, "See ya soon, Babe." Babe then got out of the foxhole and began walking in the same direction of the Sargent.
Doc sat there and watched his best friend walk away and go to face who knows what. He got worried and had a sense of fear again. So he sat there, worried and fearful.
