The New Family

Dauntless is the first to leave. I manage to glance back at Jason who looks right back at me, smiling one last time. I smile back this time and I promise myself i'll manage to see him again.

Suddenly, everyone around me starts running and shouting as they get down the stairs. I keep running and running along with other translates trying to keep up with the rest. We finally get to the streets and the crowd of Dauntless disturbs the city and the traffic. As we get far away from the building, I can hear the sounds of the train, I notice they are becoming louder and louder and that we are getting nearer every time. And then it hits me, we are going to jump into it, like Dauntless do on most occasions.

We climb into the plataform and people start jumping into the train. I breathed deeply, ran and jumped into the train with some difficulties. Thankfully a hand grabbed mine and helped me inside. The hand turned out to belong to the candoy boy who had sat down beside me at the ceremony.

"Erm, thanks" I muttered.

"Anytime" He replied.

There was an awkward silence until I noticed he was still holding my hand and he quickly let go of it.

I moved to sit at the back of the wagon and he sat down beside me.

"I'm Alex" he said.

"Raven"

"Like the bird? It must be uncommon, never heard of a Raven before"

I nodded silently.

"Not much of a talker are you? Well, seeing as you come from Erudite..."

"Your Candor really shines through, eh?" I gave him a false smile.

"Aha, and so does your Erudite" he smiled back but with a genuine smile instead.

"Why leave the erudites?" He asked.

"Why leave Candor?"

"Let's just say I can't speak the truth 24/7" he smirked, which reminded me of Jason. I couldn't help but smile.

"Look!" A girl who came from Amity shouted "They are jumping off!"

Alex and I got near the door and looked out to see people jumping onto a roof which is quite far away from the train. I gulped. We looked at eachother and managed to jump onto the roof and land safely. Unfortunately, not everyone had made it here.

Two men stand in front of us, the first one introduces himself as Max, he has dark skin and looked quite old. He is one of the five leaders of Dauntless, along with the man beside whom he has introduced as Eric.

Eric looks much younger than Max, he has light skin, a built up body, blonde hair and icy blue eyes. He also had two piercings on his eyebrow and-

Suddenly his cold gaze was over me and I immediately looked away. He looked quite scary, as he would punish you for any wrong move.

"The Dauntless compound is below. You'll just have to jump to get there, if you can't do it, well, you simply aren't Dauntless material"

"God, is there something down there or are we just going to die?" Alex spoke.

"There has to be something down there, they're just trying to scare us" I answered "They aren't going to kill us off just like that"

When Alex didn't reply and just looked forward I noticed everyone else have heard me and were looking right at me.

"Well then smarty-pants, how about we try your theory and you go first?" Eric narrowed his eyes at me as he spoke. I didn't move.

"That's an order" he growled "Thought you were smart, Erudite".

I gulped and moved forward near the edge beside him. I looked down and saw a black hole which was atleast 7 stories down. I breathed.

"Scared?" Eric taunted me.

"Not at all" I replied as I looked staight at him with a serious face, trying to gain confidence.

I looked at the hole one last time before jumping towards it.

It felt as if minutes and minutes were going by as I fell, I didn't scream, i just closed my eyes and waited for something to happen. Suddenly, my body bounced on something and I opened my eyes. A net. I was caught by a net. A hand helped me off the net.

"What's your name?"

I stared at the guy who had helped me, he was young, quite big and very attractive.

"Raven" I replied.

"First jumper, Raven!" He shouted to the crowd behind him, who immediately started clapping and shouting. "Welcome to Dauntless"

When everyone else got inside, the guy who had helped me introduced himself as Four and showed us around. We first got to see the Pit which was called like that due to its similarity to an actual pit. We saw a varierty of shops here.. There was a tattoo parlor, a shop for clothes, a nightclub, etc.

Then we got to see the Chasm, were we could see water passing by in a river underneath.

And after that we got to the dinning room where people were having dinner. As soon as we walked in they all stood up and started clapping and shouting.

I looked around, trying to find somewhere to sit and Alex, who seemed to have been behind me all along, taps my finger and points to some empty sits on a table. We sat down and we were soon joined by Four and an amity girl and an erudite boy whom I recognized as Noah, he used to be friends with my brother.

"Raven" Noah smiled as he sat down across from me "Glad i'm not alone"

"Yeah" I smile back "Same here"

"Mhm, what a shame about Jason, eh" He said as he stuffed a piece of bread into his mouth "Didn't see that one coming".

I suddenly remembered my brother and remained silent. I felt a knot on my stomach.

"Uh, well" Noah spoke again, trying to make up for his mistake "This is Emily" he pointed at the girl form Amity.

"Pleasure to meet you" I replied as I eat my salad and beef. Alex nodded at her as he drank some water.

Soon enough, dinner was over. Four had left to do his job and we were seperated into dauntless-born and translates. Apparently dauntless-born were going to be trained by Lauren, who usually works in the control room, and translates were going to be trained by Four and Eric.

Four left to do something, so we remained with Eric who showed us into our room which was shared with both boys and girls as well as the bathroom. Lovely.

"You'll have to be in the training room by 8 am everyday until 6 pm with a break for lunch. You can do whatever you wish to do after 6 pm" Eric told us.

"You will also be classified every day along the initiation, at the end, you will also be classified with the Dauntless-born"

"Why are we being classified?" Noah asks.

"It shall determine the type of job you can get" He smiled evily before adding "And also, only the ten initiates with higher score shall get to be members of Dauntless.

"What?" Someone asks.

"Four initiates will be eliminated after the first stage of initiation and the rest shall be decided after the final stage"

"Oh god" Alex whispers.

"But that's not fair!" A girl from candor exclaims.

"You have choosen us, now we get to choose you"
