Funeral

Nat sat on Wanda's bed reminiscing on her favourite memories with her best friend as her black dress spread out around her. A knock on the door caused Nat to jump but she quickly sat back down again as she knew who was there and their cause and she wished the time had not come so suddenly. Steve silently held Nat's arm and guided her out of the room and towards the unmarked car outside. The patter of the rain on the roof of the car calmed Nat and slowed her breathing. The church loomed out of the mist and the car slowed down. Steve's hand rested on Nat's shoulder as a gesture of assurance.

As Sharon walked up to the lectern, Nat looked down, trying to contain her emotions. Sharon looked at Nat and gave her a reassuring nod before commencing her speech. A tear rolled down Nat's cheek yet she made no effort to wipe it away. She took steve's hand and tried to listen to Sharon's encouraging words but she couldn't concentrate; she kept imagining Wanda's face as her tears streamed down her face until she couldn't see anything.

Nat stood at the back of the church, completely unaware of her surroundings as the words of the funeral rang in her ears. 'Hey Nat, do you want to stay round mine until everything is more normal?' Nat agreed nonchalantly and followed steve quietly out of the church and into the navy car.

The golden light that seeped through the blinds formed a line across Nat's face as she lay sound asleep. The sound of the footsteps roused Nat from her slumber and she groggily sat up as Steve opened the curtains brightening the room further. 'What?' murmured Nat. Nat began to panic as she realised where she was. Steve noticed the panic in her voice and sat down next to her, he stroked her arm but she flinched away. 'I can't steve,' the sparkle in steve's eyes disappeared as Nat spoke, his arm dropped to his side and Nat stood up and left steve to his thoughts.
