Meeting the Parents

A note was slipped into my hand during algebra.I take it and hide it under the table so I don't get into trouble and unfold it.

I want you to come to dinner with my foster parents tonight.Having another wolf around would me it better for me.If you can't its fine.Meet me in the square tonight.

I look over at Clayton and nod.He smiles at me then turns to pay attention to coach who had been staring at us.I get out my phone and text my mom.

I have a dinner tonight with a friend.Make sure to keep the door unocked when you go to bed.I'll be home around 10.

I focus on class for the next half hour until my phone goes off again.I look down and its a text from my mom.

We will see you when you get home.Have fun with your friends.

The bell rings and Clayton walks over to me."You ready to go to my place?"He smiles and walks away,me in tow.

"Where is you house anyway?"He turns around and laughs.

"Very far from here.It's up in the hills.Its will take about 5 minutes if we run."He smiles and takes off across the football field.

I follow close behind.We make it to the Reed house on the edge of town.The big two story white farmhouse has been here for years,almost as long as our's.

"Just take your boots off.They don't want the floors to get scraped up."Clayton tells me as he begins to take off his hiking boots so I begin to take off mine.

"Clayton is that you dear?"I hear a voice call from the kitchen."Who is that you are talking too?"Clayton motions for me to follow him so we walk to the kitchen.

"Hailey this is Teresa Reed.Mrs.Reed this is Hailey Blake."I smile at the woman in front of me.She looks to be almost my mom's age.

"It's nice to meet you Hailey.We are having fried chicken for dinner if that's alright with you."She smiles then turns around and continues to make dinner.

"Thats fine Mrs. Reed.We are going to the woods so just call me when dinner is ready."Clayton runs out of the house with me following after him.

"Do you smell that?"I look over at Clayton as he sniffs the air and I do the same.

"Another wolfblood,in our territory.What are they doing here."I growl.

"We know you are here so just come out and we won't hurt you."Clayton calls.

A few seconds later a girl about our age steps out from the tree line.

"I lost my pack.I was just trying to find them.I'm sorry for entering you territory."The wild wolfblood looks at us as a few more step out from the trees.

I look over at Clayton and see his eyes are yellow and the veins have appeared on his hands and under his eyes.

"Two tame wolfbloods.That is a good job Kate."The man steps out from the trees and stands next to the girl.

"Get out of here,all of you,before I rip you to pieces."I growl.I begin to feel anger inside of me.My wolf was coming out,right here and right now.

The man turns toward me and growls."A tame wants to threaten me.A tame wants to threaten me!"His eyes begin to glow yellow.

"If a cub wants to threaten me then she had better be able to back up her words with action."he takes a step toward me but Clayton steps in front of me before I can do anything.

"He isn't worth it Hailey.Let's just get out of here."He turns to leave but two of the wilds stop us.

"A company is paying a big price for tames like you two.You can either go with us quietly or we will take you two by force."A wild growls at me then takes my arm in his hand.

A black van pulls up and a woman dressed in black steps out.A few men in suits stand next to her.

"We found these tames for you.Take them and give us our reward."The man said as he backed away from us.

"I said I needed tame Wolfbloods not children."she looked me up and down then did the same to Clayton.

"I think we can take care or ourselves but if you will excuse us.My foster mom is expecting us for dinner and if we go missing then she will call the police and I don't think Segolia want to deal with that."Clayton says then he takes my hand and begins to lead me back to the house.

"The next time we meet you two will not be so lucky.Do you understand?"The woman gets in my face and growls.

"The next time we meet you won't be able to tell the story,understand?"I growl back then take Clayton's hand and walk away back toward the house.

"Who was that?"I ask Clayton as we get near his house.He turns back around toward me.

"I don't know but I'm going to find out don't worry."We walk into the house and sit at the kitchen table.

"How was your walk in the wood,Clayton?"Mrs. Reed asked as she began to set food on the table.

"It was fine,thanks."Clayton smiled at her and I did the same.

"Lets eat then shall we."We began to eag when a car pulled into the driveway.

A man walks through the door and into the kitchen.His salt and pepper har is slicked back like a business man as he takes a seat at the table.

"I didn't know we were having a guest tonight. Who is your friend Clayton?"Mr. Reed looks over at Clayton.

"Meet Hailey Blake. We met at school so I invited her over for a bit.Its getting late I'm going to walk Hailey home."Clayton stands up and walks to the door,me right behind me.

"It was nice to meet y'all."I smile at the Reeds and they smile back offering me the same kind words as we make our way out the door.

As we arrive at my house,all the way on the other side of town,Clayton wishes me goodnight and I say the same to him.

"I'll do some research on that company and tell you what I find out about them tomorrow.Meet me in the woods tomorrow night for your change if your parents will let you out."Clayton tell me then he turns around and walks back the way we came.

I walk into my house and upstairs to my room. Before I can even change,I fall asleep from exhaustion.
