A storm raged over our home in the middle of nowhere. The wind swept into every nook and cranny and the rain drowned the plants that inhabited there. My father and I ran to the barn to prepare the stalls for the animals.
We worked like robots, we were used to doing the work because every autumn a ferocious storm would strike, destroying anything unstable in it’s path. We filled the water buckets and feed troughs before grabbing the halters and venturing out.
The horses were already waiting at the gate. Although the storm had only just begun, the rain was so powerful I could feel my face bruising and I was struggling to stand up against wind. As I went to fasten the buckle around my horses halter is snapped, becoming another victim to the rust that had covered most things metal around here. Everything we brought was cheap and tacky because if you live in such a remote area why would businesses provide anything of any good to you?
I sighed as I slid the rope around her neck and prayed she wouldn’t run off as I led her to the barn. To my luck she was so desperate to get in she behaved impeccably.
Once the two horses were in we ventured back out for the sheep, and then again for the chickens. After what seemed like forever all of the animals were in our storm proof barn, where they’d stay for possibly 3 weeks until the storm passed over.
We made sure they all had food and water as well as being warm before we started to lock up for the night. The storm then let out a ferocious bolt of lightning and I knew I had little time before it was dangerous to be outside. I started to panic. Dad had just started to make his way to the house and left me to lock up the last door as he knew I liked to be the last to check the animals. I slid the door and started to fiddle with the lock when another bolt of lightning flashed not far away from me. I let out a cry as the lock finally gave in and snapped into place. I turned to run to the house when I caught the side of my forehead on a bit of metal that stuck out, it sliced through my skin like a knife. I winced but knew I could do nothing until I was inside, so I ran.
Just as I was reaching the house I made out a large black car parked in the driveway. I stopped and watched as a man got out to greet my dad. Our house was also a bed and breakfast yet hardly anyone visited and especially not during storm season. I watched as my dad and this man talked before they shook hands and my dad began to help carry his belongings inside. Just then the back doors of the car opened to reveal 5 boys and their belongings and then another man appeared from the passenger side. They all rushed inside and I followed.
‘Oh and here she is’ My dad smiled as I entered the house. ‘Inds we have some guests.’ I looked up and was immediately greeted by 8 pairs of eyes. I smiled. ‘They were on their way to the city, but it’s obvious it’s too dangerous to drive in this weather. I said they were welcome to stay for as long as they needed too.’ I listened as I took off my raincoat. My hair dripped and I shuddered because I was soaked through. Not the best time to be meeting new people.
‘So you’re a boyband’ My dad asked them.
‘We’re not’ The man said and chuckled, ‘But the boys are.’ My dad laughed with them.
‘So whats the bands name?’ He asked, there was a short pause before the 5 boys replied in unison;
‘One Direction’.
