As we were leaving the house, Princess walked up to me and pulled me back inside. “Are you happy?” 

“What?”

“This is what you always wanted, isn’t it? You hated the idea of me and him together. Didn’t you?”

“Yes,” I admitted. She scoffed at me. “But you were the one who was so desperate to make things work, that all you actually did was push him away.”

“I know,” she cried. “I just wanted him to want me.” I think that was the first time I saw Janice for what she really was. Not an evil witch with green skin and warts, or a princess that got whatever she wanted. But someone that lost her mother and right when she thought she was going to have another chance at a family, she got stuck with me. 

I was the one with the green skin.

“So, this is it then?” she sniffled.

“I don’t know about that. If I were you, I would expect some abrupt visits from me at Stanford.”

She threw her arms around me. Reluctantly, I hugged her back. She whispered in my ear, “He never loved me like he does you.”

I pulled away and choked, “What?”

“He never loved me back,” she added. Princess squeezed my shoulder.“Bye, sis.”

She picked up her bag and walked to the security line. I murmured, “Bye, Princess.”

“Where do we go now?” Neal asked.
