"Potter, you're doing it wrong, the book says that you have to put-"
"I know what I'm doing, Malfoy, shut up." Harry said, and Draco sneered.
"Wait until my father hears about this," Draco said, his voice soaked with disgust. "Until he finds out I'm going to be spending a bloody semester in potions with Harry Potter," He spat the words out like he committed a crime saying them. "Can't even brush his hair properly." He added.
Harry dismissed the last comment and sighed. "It's not that bad Malfoy," Harry said, then instantly regretted it. Draco stared at him with an intensity he hasn't seen in a person before. As if Draco's questioning him about it, like he's saying are you kidding?
Draco opened his mouth as if he was going to say something, but he closed it just as quickly and frowned, looking around the room and avoiding Harry.
"Like," Harry starts gathering a handful of beans and placing them in front of him while Draco leaned against the desk casually, doing nothing but watch him, "It's not like you've been partnered with Voldemort."
Draco scoffed and fussed with his hair. "I wish I had been." He remarked, "Better than Saint Potter. At least he doesn't have stupid hair.
Harry was quiet while he absorbed the comment, the fact that Draco Malfoy would rather be paired with Lord Voldemort in potions because Harry had bad hair. He almost took offense to the comment, but let it slide.
"Fine, whatever, "Harry sighed, shaking his head, "Just help me out here and cut these beans." He scooped a handful of beans out of the bag they were in and held them out to Draco. They shared a look for a moment as Draco sighed and nodded.
Harry's hand briefly felt Draco's hesitantly slide into his as he collected the beans, both gingerly holding eye contact with one another, then going back to their work.
"Fine. But I'm only helping you because I don't want to fail this class." Draco said a few moments after like he was proving to harry that he didn't want to help. "You should actually be grateful to me Potter. I bet you were doing awfully in potions before you had me to do all the work for you."
Harry rolled his eyes. Draco continued to talk at Harry while they sliced the beans, and Crabbe turned around every now and then to snigger at a snide comment. Hermione turned around to check upon him, and he shurgged wearily.
She sighed, mouthing a small "sorry" at him.
"It's not your fault," He replied.
"These beans are done," Draco announced, Harry jumping at the sound of the voice behind him, almost like it was on his neck. He turned around to look at Draco's completed sliced beans, then began to start his own again. "Where do you want them?"
"Put them in the cauldron," Harry said, his eyes focused on the beans. "Thanks, Draco."
Draco.
His body froze over as soon as he realised he had even thanked him out loud. He turned to match Malfoy's eyes staring at him. He had caught it too. Of course he had; across all their bickering, they hadn't called each other by their first names in years. Harry almost went to apologise for it before Malfoy replied.
"Yeah, no problem." Draco hesitantly replied.
Harry continued to instruct Draco throughout the rest of the lesson. As he finished pouring some broth into the cauldron, he caught Draco looking at him in the corner of his eye - Draco had slowly stopped working on the potion and just stood there. Not staring intensely as he had earlier. Just looking at him.
