First day back to school after a dreadful , never ending summer. Most kids would love to continue summer vacation for the rest of their lives . Then there's me , my names Maisen Waters . I guess I wasn't your typical teenager that summer. The main reason I was excited for school was because I was new to the town. Never mind town , new to the country. I was a Canadian , who has a father that couldn't refuse the best offer he'd ever been given . That offer was to pack up the whole family and move to Georgia. We finished school in Canada a little late in Canada. June the 26th that year. My mother picked me up that day because it was our last day in our old house , we'd be staying with my grandparents until we actually left. I had plans for the whole weekend that was coming ahead. There was a few end of the year parties I had been invited to, which I had originally planned on going to . It was that day, the last day of school , June 26th, that I was told we'd be leaving for the United States in 3 days .
All my friends were upset, we all had plans for that weekend, I had to cancel a few. I managed to cram hanging out with all my friends into 3 days . It was very difficult, but I managed. Those 3 days flew by, I barely got a break from people. But I knew I'd finally get some time to myself, some peace and quite on the 22 hour car ride to Georgia .
The car ride was mostly silent . My mother decided to bring her ignorant friend along to "help" is move . I mostly just listened to my music and looked out the window . Sherrie the ignorant woman would try to talk to me. I would mostly ignore her, only making contact every so often when I felt like if I didn't my mother would scowl at me for my "rude" behaviour .
I wasn't very excited to move . Sure we would be better off, no more debt, big house and all of those things. But I would still miss my friends that I grew up with and the family I saw everyday.
It felt so surreal, just thinking about how much my life is going to change. We continued driving into the night, only stopping for restroom breaks and coffee runs to keep the drivers awake.
We finally arrived at my new house at around 4:00am. I was so tired. I walked into the house threw the front door . My dad found the key that he had the old owners place in the outlet case out front of the house . He opened up the door and my jaw had dropped . I came from living in a small 1100sq ft house and now a 3000sq ft house. It was like a new world for me . As crazy as this may sound, I may have gotten lost.
I eventually curled up in a ball on the living room floor, I cuddled into my snuggie. It was extremely hot in the house when we got there. The previous home owners turned off the air conditioning until we moved in. My father turned up the air fill blast in the house . He and my mother had a bed to sleep in that the old home owners left. They also let my little brother snuggle in with them . I was stuck downstairs on the living room floor with Sherrie, and my grandmother who I love dearly. She came to help us move in . She didn't like Sherrie either actually. At that point , my father , grandmother and myself all disliked this woman who would be staying at my house for the next two weeks. My grandmother decided to go outside and sleep in the car. She had no pillow or blanket , neither did Sherrie . Nobody really cares but Sherrie had . We didn't like her anyways . Sherrie followed her out the front door and into my grandmothers van to sleep for the night. I just stayed on the floor wrapped in my snuggie as much as possible and hoped slumber would soon consume my body. Eventually it did but only for two very short hours until I was awakened by my mother coming downstairs because we had a lot to do . Grocery shopping , furniture shopping, and shopping for bedding and necessities .
It was a long day to say the least. My moth spent over 15,000 dollars today on furniture alone. We had the money for it . But still seeing that much money go so quick is quite scary.
We arrived home at around 6:00pm . We ate out , my mother did not have close to enough energy to cook a dinner for 6 people .
We put together all the beds and set all the bedding out. At this point everyone was exhausted and just wanted to climb into bed and sleep for hours, maybe even days. That was the best night of sleep I had had in ages. I don't think I realized at that point how much I was going to miss things in Canada . Sure things were going great at that point , all new furniture, all new everything . But eventually time would catch up on me and I would begin missing my friends and family in Canada . That's all I had my whole life , and soon it's almost all gone .
