From time to time we see it come at us like a rain of pride and joy, a gateway to new beginnings and time to remember the good things in life. I love winter and all but my girlfriend, no she was more of a spring person, and i didn't mind. She would go on telling me all the new things she picked up and found out about the nearby woods. She was always the more "energetic" one when spring came around, running and playing with the smaller animals like rabbits, squirrels and various small birds. This was the sign that spring has started and all the snow on the ground would start to melt or get all mushy and soft. This wasn't just any day, no this day went something like this.
It was early in the cool spring morning and she was already out playing and running around. She started towards the woods, but stopped to see if I would let her run o, so I nodded and o she went. Running deeper into the woods she stopped every now and then to rest and play. She was having fun in the nice warmth from the sun and the cool shade from the many trees, but what made this more so a good day for her was the blooming of the rare red and white black dragon roses that trailed a path towards a lake. Sning them she smiles and headed down the trail. Without caring she began to run down the trail unaware of the threat that laid in the shadows behind her.
After making her way to a clear opening, and stopping to rest. She found herself by the great lake of umu. The lake was huge, crystal clear, surrounded by life, and seemed to be pure with light. She was taken by the beauty and warmth. Caught up the moment, she walked around the lake enjoying the view not noticing the darkness coming towards her. She stopped and smelled a flower, but a chill ran down her back to her tail. She looked up to see the sky turn dark, and her happiness quickly faded as she began to fill with fear. A large black wolf stood before her, his eyes were red with blood and the stench of death grew stronger the closer he got. She growled at him in attempt to scare him o, but failed with her confidence and pride after his first steps. He grew closer slowly with each step, and she began to cower and submitted to him. He stopped right in front of her and sat down, looking down at her. She looked up at him and sat up straight with her ears lowered. The wolf looked to his sides as if giving her a choice, life or death, freedom or slavery. She didn't need a second hint to make a decision, and ran ran to the edge of the forest of the lake, and turned to bow to the wolf. When she rose to look at him, he was gone, so she ran o back to where she came from. Along the way she noticed the darkness begin to turn into light and everything around her was going back to normal. She made it back to where the dragon roses mark the path to the lake and ran home from there. Little animals ran next to her happily as if they knew of the danger she was in and was relieved of her safety. She smiled a little until the stop at the forest edge with her. A couple of rabbits rub her tail and a fox sat next to her. "Go home and enjoy what you have here. I'm sure your mate is waiting for you," he said looking up at her and smiling.
And o she went, running at full speed to the house. She ran up the the steps, through the doorway and to the den where I was. Rushing up to me she burst into tears crying and barely speaking any understandable words. I smiled and petted her letting her cry and she calmed down and fell asleep. After looking out the window at the forest, I saw the black wolf walk back into the forest and disappear. It left the thought "that death is always close, so enjoy the little and best parts of life while it last" in my head as I drifted o to sleep.
