Chapter 1 - The Colourful Rose

YAWN.... It was 3:15pm and Jack Johnson was tapping the floor impatiently with his foot while staring closely at the clock. "Come on! Come on! Come on! 15 minutes more!" He shouted in his head. "Jack Johnson!" The teacher, Miss Fannette, roared. "Why aren't you answering my question?!". Jack's mind raced. His heart beat rapidly. What was the question? He wasn't listening to the teacher. "Ermm.." He mumbled worriedly, " I.... I'm not sure Miss...." A sinister grin spread across the teachers face. "Okay, well can you repeat the question for me please?" Jack started to sweat his eyes darted around the room, searching for someone that might help him. He stared at his friends sitting around him with a panicked look. All of his friends, Jamie O'main, Lachlan Alexander, Joe Maffii and Kane Kantineye, were giggling with their hands glued to their mouths. "Traitors." Jack thought angrily. "Hello?" Miss Fannette said to Jack "Do you not know the question because you WERE'NT LISTENING?" Jack lowered his head and stared at the floor. Then he shook his head side to side. The evil teachers sinister grin transformed into a giant evil smile. "DETENTION FOR YOU!" She shouted, "I guess you'll need to stay back after school for a while!" BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! "Oh, and there the bell goes."

As the sound of the electronic bell stopped coming out of the speakers, the sound of happiness and freedom faded away as children of all aged poured out the door of Delmino Primary School. Soon every single student of the school was running home or getting on a car or bus. All except one boy. That boy was Jack Johnson. "Damn it" he growled, "So close, and now I'll miss the bus for the sixth time in a row!" He gazed around the deserted classroom, looking for something he could do to kill some time. That was when he noticed something strange about Miss Fannette's new plant that was laying in an flowerpot on the windowsill.

Jack stared at the plant as he rose from his seat. It was somehow glowing! It was shaped as an ordinary flower, one that anyone would first think of as soon as they thought about the word 'flower'. It was just that it was glowing red for a while, and then it changed to blue, then green, and then red again. How did no one else notice that? There was also a strip of paper strapped to the pot, with the words 'DO NOT TOUCH' scribbled on to it. Jack shut his eyes and sat back down in his seat. "Don't touch it" he muttered to himself, "I'll get in even bigger trouble, plus, you know what they say, curiosity killed the cat...."

Jack stared forward to the white board, struggling to keep distracted, while he stuck his arms to the desk in front of him. Twenty minutes passed. Jack was sweating and his eyes were darting to and from the white board and the plant. "Only ten minutes left, don't spoil it...." He couldn't stand it anymore. He was starting to go crazy. He smashed his head against the desk and slapped his face while he was at it.

That was all he could take. He jumped out of his chair and sprinted to the window. He turned around and searched the room for anything that was watching him, then checked out the window. The coast was clear. He ripped the 'DO NOT TOUCH' strip of paper off, and hovered his fingers over the plant. "FINALLY!" he blurted out at the top of his lungs. His mad look on his face started to fade, as he touched the petal of it. Then he grasped of the stalk and waited. Nothing happened. He still waited. Still nothing happened. The mad look returned to his face. NOTHING? Nothing happened? He was about to go absolutely crazy when his whole world tuned white. Then, he vanished.
