valentina's POV
—
"here we are!!!" i yell. callie suddenly tackles me and we crash onto the floor. we're both laughing and wheezing while callie has her finger over lips going, "SHHHH!" we both continue to laugh until we cry tears of joy. miranda, meredith, amelia, and lexie find us on the ground wrestling each other."told you they're like kids," i hear miranda mutter to the girls. they all laugh in unison. "cmon, monkeys, get up. enough jumping on the bed and get to work," miranda says to us. callie lets out a humongous wheeze which has me rolling and dying. meredith rolls her eyes while amelia and lexie start laughing. amelia and lexie help callie get up off the floor and miranda gives me a hand. after mer, amelia, and lexi leave to attend to an emergency surgery and callie goes to the other side of the room to punch in, miranda pulls me to the side.
"how come y'all show up together this morning?" she asks skeptically. "lucky coincidence, i guess," i lie. miranda stares pointedly at me now. "cut the horseshit, tina, i know that was anything BUT a lucky coincidence. how do i know? because callie doesn't react too well to lucky coincidences, no matter how lovely they are." i sigh. "well, can you cut me some slack? i'm just getting to know callie. i may be a psychologist, but i'm not an artificial intelligence robot who can read everyone in one scan." miranda casts her eyes upward for patience.
"obviously i know that you don't know EVERYTHING about callie yet. you don't need to. just don't lie now that i know that you like callie because i know when everyone here is lying. okay?" she says. i nod. miranda tilts her head. "you look tired. you get enough sleep yesterday?" i nod emphatically. "yeah, yeah, it's just, i don't know. nervous about facing callie," i reply dumbly. "mm," miranda responds thoughtfully. "i knew it had something to do with cals. well, i guess it's time to show you your office. let's go!" miranda starts walking toward the elevator but i grab her arm. "wait a minute. i have an OFFICE? callie never showed me it!" miranda snorts. "yeah, that's because she was too busy staring at you." it's my turn to snort. "if you say so," i laugh.
the elevator doors open and my heart stops. arizona robbins and alex karev are in the elevator. they stand there as miranda and i get inside. arizona tilts her head to the side then smiles at me. alex gives me a small wave. i smile and wave nervously back at them. "what the hell do i do if arizona starts asking me questions?" i whisper into miranda's ear. "just respond as truthfully and honestly as you can without mentioning anything about callie unless you absolutely have to," she whispers back. i nod. she gives me a thumbs up. oddly, arizona doesn't say anything to me, just maintains small talk with alex. she doesn't even stare at me throughout the elevator ride. my floor comes up before theirs, so miranda and i thankfully exit the elevator.
i finally exhale. miranda creases her eyebrows together. "were you holding your breath that whole damn time?" she asks. "i guess. though the anxiety took over," i say, out of breath all of a sudden. "yeah, i can see that. it's all over your face," miranda says as we walk into an office with whitewashed walls and a nice black wooden door. a desk with glass and a white marble material framing it is ready for me to use. there's a nice fluffy white desk chair to match the desk. there's even a nameplate with my name engraved on it that the hospital has provided for me. there's two regular black chairs with cushions on the other side of the desk, right across my chair. a vase of roses and carnations sits in the middle of the desk. there's welcome notes from everyone in the hospital. at least everyone i've met so far.
miranda takes on a shocked look. "wowww, those flowers look new. like they've just been placed there this morning. i never even got this fancy setup and flowers when i applied for the job." i laugh. "you know what? callie probably put in an order for those flowers and this fancy interior design. no other office, not even the chief, has this fancy of an office. you're special, val." i scoff. i glance behind me at the door which has my name stenciled on it. i squeal with excitement. miranda pats my back.
"welcome to seattle, tina."
a/n — this is more of a shorter chapter compared to the others but still; i really liked the way i wrote it out. i don't know—writing just comes along so easily for me. like when i'm typing out stuff, things come to mind and i type them out. it's really fun. i love u all and keep on reading🤧
