MONDAY

I lay in bed looking up at the reflective ceiling, my thoughts overwhelming me, it was five am. Another night without sleep, another night held captive of my horrifying past.

I hop out of bed and head into the bathroom for a quick shower. After thoroughly washing myself twice, I wrapped myself in my dry towel and walked into my closet. Once I was dry, I changed into black running shorts and an electric blue long sleeve zip up, then I slid into my shoes. I walked out into my room and grab my keys, phone, and wireless earbuds.

Exiting my apartment, I text my bodyguard letting him know I'd be going for my run. I was a well know entrepreneur in Los Angeles. I owned a high tech company, so it was important that I had security 24/7. However the software I designed can track you, I had a tracking device placed in my shoes because you never know what can happen in this world. Especially after all that I had been through.

Living in LA is beneficial. There are great places to eat, lots of things to do, and most importantly lots of places to run (or hike, if you're crazy enough). I decided to run on the track at the college that was near my apartment seeing as after words I would be going to get something to fuel me. I warmed up for about 30 minutes doing stretches, always remember to stretch before working out. After stretching I began my laps on the track.

By the time I finished my run it was a little lighter out, and my head was finally clear. I decided to walk over to my favorite coffee shop, The Steam House. Going to get coffee there at 6:45 A.M. was quite normal, not just for me, but for others as well.

Once I arrive at the shop, I open the door and walk in simultaneously inhaling the delicious aroma of coffee beans.

I look around the slightly filled shop and try to spot the person I was looking for, Lance. Lance was my best friend since diapers and also the owner of The Steam House franchise. He stood at 6'4", had natural dirty blonde hair, dimples, and hazel eyes.

Lance was, of course, single. People always thought we were dating or that he was gay, but it was neither. Lance was looking for the perfect girl and while the idea of being with him seemed safe, it still wasn't enough to make me act on it.

"Lance!!" I greet him smiling widely.

"Look what the cat dragged in," he says walking towards me.

I hugged him, we haven't seen each other in a few weeks solely because Lance was busy checking on his other shops.

"I missed you, you spoiled brat. Life has been dull without you," I fake cry into his chest. He burst with laughter.

"Well good thing someone's birthday is this weekend and I have cleared my schedule," he says.

I hop off him and jokingly raise my eyebrow at him, "I don't recall planning anything..."

He winks, "I guess that's exactly what I am here for. Anyways, Thursday night your parents have planned a dinner for you and Friday night you'll be out partying with me, the love of your life."

"I assume when you say dinner, you mean a full swing party full of upper-class pricks?" I question.

He didn't need to say anything because I already knew the answer. Don't get me wrong, I love my parents, they're the sweetest, but their friends? Not so much.

"Anyways, I already made your coffee and food, it's ready to go."

Every time I come to Lance's coffee shop I get a caramel iced coffee along with a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. I'm not one to change orders, I stick to things I know well.

I smile and give Lance a quick kiss on the cheek, "Thanks, you are the absolute best!"

I grab my things, say goodbye to my best friend, and head home.

This week was going to be long, hopefully, it will be worth it.

Later

As I make my way into my apartment building, I notice a bunch of men carrying boxes and furniture in. I wonder who as moving into the building, would it be some creepy rich guy or an older woman? I walk towards the elevators, I press the up button and wait for the elevator to open. Suddenly my phone buzzes, my mom was facetiming me.

I answer the facetime call, "Hello," I say. I looked at my beautiful brown skinned mother, she had her hair curly like she had just done a wash and go, but I was sure she had gone to the hair shop. It was rare that my mom would do her hair, growing up she would send me to get my hair done at the shop because she did not really know how to do hair.

She smiles, "Hi baby, are you exciting for your yearly birthday party?" I so desperately wanted to do anything other than that, but I knew it would devastate my mother and her love for planning and decorating, so I feign excitedness. "Yes, I am so excited, what is on the menu this year?" I asked.

She takes a deep breath, "Well this year we decided to have your favorite Shrimp alfredo, garlic bread, grilled asparagus, and parmesan roasted potatoes." I beam at the camera, I was a foodie, I loved delicious cuisines and could not wait for the dinner party. "That sounds great," my mom could not help but laugh, I guess she could tell I was picturing the food at this exact moment, and I was.

I see the elevator doors open and I enter the shaft pressing my floor. "Alright mom, I am going to let you go, I am going to be on my floor soon. I love you." I blow her a kiss and end the call after she says goodbye. I was going to have to give my dad a call eventually, mom never puts him on the phone, she usually wants one on one time with me.

I begin scrolling on my Instagram and liking pictures that my friends post. I hear the ding indicating that the elevator had arrived on my floor, still looking at my phone I begin to exit, I walk into a man.

"Sorry! Apparently, I cannot multitask today." I apologized and moved out of his way only glancing at him. I was too busy being embarrassed that I hurried to my door before he could say anything. I quickly unlock my door and slip inside. Accidents happen, but I was not big on interacting with random men.

After all the running around I had done today, I needed another shower and a good movie.

I wonder who Cadence ran into... Why does Cadence feel awkward when interacting with men?

Find out next time in AOHL.
