Mary lived alone. She wishes life could be like it used to be, everything came easy food, warmth, water, but even those necessities had to be worked hard for now, now that we're in the middle of a pandemic. The whole world had changed, a world that was blooming and full of life was now dull and lifeless, the illness that ripped through the globe had tattered and torn the lives of many. For Mary who was aged 67 at the time was at risk of fatality during this painful and extremely daunting time, She had to forage for her own food now, the shops in her local villages and town were all bordered up and had signs on their windows saying 'stay in self isolation, we have gotten to the point where all shops must be avoided in order to lower the spread of this deadly illness.' this information creeped Mary out, what had the world come to? she thought and it wasn't the only time she thought it during the past few grim months, she underestimated the outbreak when she first heard of it.
It was 2.07pm exactly and Mary was going to forage in the woods like the many other times she had. It was a cold day about 2°c outside and the once lush green 'full of life' trees were bare. It was rare she ever found something worth having but that's all she could live off. As she walked twigs cracked under her feet, breaking the eery silence of the quiet woods. She somehow decided to take her metal detector to the woods with her that day, she thought it would brighten up the laborious same-old journey she always took, Mary was optimistic about finding treasure but she never had done, she wasn't the type to give up though. As she walked through the woods, she saw a pile of mushrooms sat at the foot of the tree, she thought to herself 'I wonder if they're edible' as food was so scarce, Mary's tummy was rumbling at the sight of them and she became so desperate for food, she was willing to take a risk and pick them.
3.37pm
Today isn't going well she thought to herself, I've been out for an hour and a half and found a pile of potentially deadly mushrooms. She sat at the foot of the tall bare tree and a tear rolled down her cold cheeks that had been thrashed by the freezing wind and turned them a rosy pink. As she looked up to the top of the tree, not knowing what to do next she heard a beep... Then another... And another! "What's that?" She muttered to herself in a confused tone. She looked down and her metal detector was flashing a bright iridescent blue, she had no idea it was even switched on! She got up on her feet and hovered the metal detector around where she was sitting and there it was again! Beep, beep, beep. She started digging excitedly, she felt hope for the first time in forever... Nothing yet... Her heart was thudding so hard on her chest and the adrenaline was starting to kick in. Then she saw it... A gold ring encrusted with rubies and diamonds, mary started to feel dizzy and she didn't believe what was going on.
She looked at the metal detector like it was a diamond itself, look what it has found!
'Oh I could sell this and get so much money' she thought to herself
'Hmmm what could I buy?'.......
