"Nak, what's the date today?" I asked my granddaughter while we are both watching the sunset.
"Lola, today is August 21, 1955. Ah! It’s the same date you told me that you are once in loved in a Spanish soldier, what is his name again? Alvaro Rivera? what happened? Why you and him did not ended up with each other, Lola?" Amelia asked.
I can still recall the last time we saw each other. It was almost 5 o'clock on tuesday afternoon, 21st of August, year 1886. I was at my twenty that time, where Spanish is the authority and leading the country.
I started to fold the mat I supposedly use with my beloved Alvaro. But he did not come to our meeting place. I have to hurry home before Spanish Soldiers could see me.
"A donde vas?" Where are you going?
I stunned when I heard someone behind me, so I slowly move my head towards him.
"You're here!." I beamed then hugged him tightly. As expected he's wearing a Soldier's uniform. Alvaro is a nephew of Gobernadorcillo, and yes, he is a Spanish Soldier.
Spanish are not allowed to have commitment with Indio, yet in some unexpected incident Spanish Soldier Alvaro Rivera fall in love with me, Ressureccion Salcedo.
"It's late, I must go home. It's already 5 o'clock. Let's just meet tommorow." I panicked. Women are not allowed to go anywhere before five o'clock. He did not let go of my hands.
"Ressureccion, I'm leaving. I have to finish my study in Espanya." He's caressing my face.
"Para!" Stop.
We literally got froze when we heard Soldier's footstep. Their gun are pointing at us.
"Alvaro,deja a la chica." Leave the girl.
"Déjame hablar con ella." Let me talk to her. Alvaro said while gripping my wrist.
"No! o te mataremos." Or we will kill you! They say then they move to give way for...
"Deja a la chica, Alvaro!" Gobernador General says with full of superiority.
Alvaro slowly shake his head and before he said something, We just heard a loud bang of a gun then Alvaro's body suddenly fell down.
My tears are falling down, No words are coming out from my mouth. But before Alvaro close his eyes I just read his lips saying "Eternidad."
During Spaniards colonialization most of people suffered, they even ruined the life of the Indio and killed their fellow Spanish men just to show that they are powerful and they must be obeyed by everyone. It is just sad that I once lived in that time and once in loved with a right man but in a rebellious era.
"Lola, Alvaro died for you. His love is endless. Even before he leave the country for his study, he let you know he will be gone. He saved you, Lola." Then Amelia hugged me.
"I know. El amor de Alvaro es la eternidad."
