"Mabel and Dipper Pines have always been… well odd" Said almost everyone they've met.

As you've already probably guessed, Mabel and Dipper Pines were the farthest thing away from ordinary (To the puzzlement of their entire family), but when one is born with a twin, well, how normal can you be with another copy of yourself?

Granted, they were fraternal twins, but that didn't matter much in face of their similar facial and bodily structures. Looking at each other might as well be like looking into a fun-house mirror modified to alter your gender.

Personality wise though… well the twins were as different as night and day.

Mabel Pines ('The brightest shooting star you'll ever see.') was a sweet, bubbly, girl who enjoyed socializing. She could spend hours upon hours talking to people about nothing in particular, and most would be able to say nothing in the face of her eagerness and overbearing enthusiasm.

Dipper Pines ('The sturdiest pine tree you'll ever meet.') was the complete opposite of his sister. He was a shy, soft-spoken boy who enjoyed staying indoors and talking to no one. No one but his sister that is. He could spend days with his head in a book, and it would take hours of effort just to pull him out for a few moments.

So similar, yet still too different.

However, despite all their differences, the twins were the best of friends. Why they almost never left each other's side in their first few years of existence and not for the lack of trying on their parent's part. They had attempted separating them once…

It didn't go well.

(Their grandpa, Shermie, could tell you of a similar set of twins.)

So yeah, the twins were extremely odd, and almost everyone that met them decided to shun them for it.

"They're just too odd."

"What a bunch of idiots!"

"I remember them shaving their heads in kindergarten during photo day! What sort of freaks do that?!"

"Hahaha, freaks."

For most of their young lives, the Pines Twins (or the Mystery Twins as they prefer to be called) were lonely. They had no friends in school and most of their cousins didn't like them enough to correspond with them daily.

And then one day, their lives changed. Their parents decided to send them to a sleepy town in Oregon called Gravity Falls, as per Pines family tradition, to spend the summer with their Great Uncle Stan.

The twins didn't know what to expect. None of their older cousins had anything kind to say about Stan, or Grunkle Stan as he insists to be called, and their parents were being all mysterious about it.

Gravity Falls turned out to be different than anything they've ever encountered.

The first week was… well, boring. Mabel, in a fit of typicalness, adjusted fairly easily to her surroundings. She warmed up very quickly to Grunkle Stan, unlike her brother Dipper, who was having a hard time adapting to the Shack's constant state of chaos.

However, things got a little bit… well crazy, afterwards.

Needless to say, the twins thrived in their new surroundings.

When the time came to leave though, Mabel and Dipper were incredibly reluctant.

Life in Gravity Falls and the Mystery Shack was amazing! The last few months of the summer were the best they've ever had in their entire lives!

While Piedmont, in California, shunned them and their weirdness, Gravity Falls accepted it and even welcomed it with open arms!

They never wanted to leave, but they had too. And so it was with heavy hearts that Dipper and Mabel, hugged their Grunkles and friends goodbye, and then went off back to Piedmont.

The bus ride that followed was quite dull. The twins didn't speak throughout the entire trip.

Mabel fell asleep on her brother's shoulder, her pig, Waddles, clutched safely in her arms. Dipper kept staring out of the window thoughtfully wondering about everything that might happen as soon as they reach home.

Their parents response to their summer tales. Their aunts and uncles responses. Heck, what would Grandpa Shermie say when he discovers that both of his brothers are alive and well?

Dipper smiled thoughtfully at the letter in his hand. Gravity Falls meant a lot to him and Mabel. Maybe their parents will let them go back there next summer.
