The weekend passed slowly since I hardly had anything exciting to do. I had already finished my homework by Friday night, so I spent rest of the weekend by either playing my guitar or sticking my nose in the new novel I started.
On Monday morning, blaring of the alarm clock woke me up from my slumber. I lazily walked to the bathroom, finished my morning routine and dressed in dark jeans and T- shirt with a hood. I walked into the kitchen and saw mom flipping a pancake on the pan.
"Hey sweetie, good morning.' greeted my mom.
"Good morning." I replied while sitting on the stool. I looked around for Jeremy and Maya but couldn't find them. Mom must have seen me looking for them since she answred before I asked.
"They're still in bed. Jeremy isn't feeling well so Maya is keeping him company." mom said, smiling at their childish antics.
"Seems like they're going to have fun." I said, smiling too.
I quickly finished my pancakes and got up. I had 30 minutes walk to do so I grabbed my bag pack and gave mom a quick kiss on cheek and left for school.
A gust of cold wind attacked me as soon as I stepped outside. I pulled my hood tightly around me and started walking. I reached school sparing hardly five minutes for the bell to ring. I rushed over to my locker and got my chemistry book and binder. In my haste to reach the class before the final bell, I quickly shut my locker and turned around and bumped into someone. The person fell to the floor groaning. I looked down shocked, ready to apologize when the final bell rang. I mumbled a quick sorry before I ran to the class. Rude, I know but I had a class to attend. The person or may I say the girl who I bumped into, must be thinking what a jerk I am.
I sheepishly opened the classroom door and stepped inside. Mrs. William peeked up from the attendance register and narrowed her eyes at me.
"You're late Mr. Scott." She stated the obvious. I opened my to mouth to apologize but she cut me off.
"I'm excusing you this time since it's the first time you're late in my class but I won't be this lenient next time. Is that clear?"
I nodded my head and mumbled a thanks and made my way to my seat at the back near the window.
Mrs. William had just started her lecture on Redox reaction when there was a knock on the door and someone stepped inside. I looked up from by book and saw the same girl I had bumped into, earlier. The girl made her way to the teacher table and showed a slip. Mrs. William turned toward the class and said,
"This is a new transfer student class." she then turned to the new girl and asked,
"Dear, would you like to introduce yourself to the class?"
The new girl faced the class and looked around. Her eyes, a shade of melted honey, widened for a fraction of second when she made eye contact with me before she turned her eyes away.
"Hey, my name is Tracey Lincoln. I've moved here from Italy because of my parents' job transfer. I have a little sister who's a freshman here. I guess that's it for now." she said, smiling shyly.
"That's good. Take a seat wherever you like Tracey." Mrs. William patted her on shoulder and turned toward the board.
Tracey made her way to the back and sat on the chair on my left side. I turned my attention back to my book. I could feel her gaze on me but ignored and continued through the chapter.
" The least you could have done was to help me get up from floor. It's pretty rude to just leave the person on ground and run away, you know." she accused.
I slightly turned my head in her direction and blinked, caught off guard by her bluntness.
" I..I..I'm sorry I had to leave you like that. I was running late for the class." I stuttered.
"Oh it's okay. I was just messing with you. But that was quite a fall, I'm sure to have a bruise on my bum by tomorrow." She laughed but stopped when Mrs. William shook her finger in her direction.
I turned back to the board and tried to ignore her. Nobody had ever made a decent conversion with me, let alone a girl. I was completely speechless by her straight-forwardness.
"My name's Tracey, I believe you know by now. What's yours?" She asked, smiling friendly at me.
I was still trying to comprehend the fact that she was trying to be friendly and talking to me. I guess it was her first day here. Tomorrow she won't be sitting next to me.
"Nathan", I replied curtly.
"You don't talk much, do you?" she asked rhetorically. "Don't worry about it. I think we're going to be really good friends because I can't stop talking and you're quite a listener." she beamed at me.
I eyed her suspiciously, doubting by the end of the day she would hardly agree to what she said. By the looks of it, she was meant to be the part of 'it' group. I shook my head and packed my books. I noticed her confused look and said, " I highly doubt that." Before she could ask any further question, the bell rang and I made my way out of the class.
