Crash and Burn

March 25th, the day everything changed in my life. Colby Brock and I met on March 25th 2015. We have been together ever since. We had met over vine. I was one of the only people who lived close to him and Sam.

So one day we all decided to meet up at the mall for a few vines. Ever since then Colby, Sam, And Jake were my best friends. After six months of being the best of friends Colby asked to go on our first date, we went to the movies then to the park.

Anyway back to the present, we were going out for our anniversary, Colby said he wanted to make sure it was special. We recreated our first date, we just left out the bad haircuts and poor posture. We went to see Aladdin, it may have taken some begging but he finally agreed.

The movie was phenomenal! And even though Colby said he wasn't a big fan of Disney, he enjoyed the movie too.

We were walking hand in hand, the moment was one I will never forget.

"Admit it Cole you loved Aladdin! Admit it and I won't tell anyone you cried!" I had said teasing him.

"It was okay, but you can't argue that the original was ten times better." he said, looking both ways before we crossed the street, nothing was coming in that moment, nothing at all.

"Yeah you're right on that one I guess but you still have to adm-"

I felt weightless for a moment, I could myself fly across the pavement. It was almost like I was underwater. Before registering what happened I tried to sit up, when I couldn't I tried to open my eyes, but it's as if thousand pound weights were being held over each of my eyes.

I wanted to yell for Colby, to make sure he was alive, but my body betrayed me. I could hear sirens in the distance gradually getting closer, until I could hear the EMTS yelling to each other, but their voices were muddled. For just a brief moment I could see, but just barely. I could see the sky, the stars were out tonight, and God were they pretty.

"We're losing her!" I heard someone yell before my entire world was gone.

(Colby's P.O.V)

The slow rhythmic beep was the only thing that could be heard, I knew I was in the hospital I could tell not only because of the sound, but the smell too. The sickly smell of hand sanitizer and chemicals. I couldn't force myself to open my eyes. I could only think about what happened.

One second, that's all it takes to change your life. One second the girl of my dreams was teasing me about Disney and the next I was laying in the road. The hard asphalt under my cheek, telling me that we're hit by a car. Y/N! Is she okay? God I hope and pray to god she is. I can't lose her, after all we have been through.

After laying around for what felt like hours I slowly but surely opened my eyes, immediately closing them after, due to the bright light shining in my eyes. After adjusting slowly I let them open all the way and the light no longer bothered me. I looked around and I saw a head of blonde hair passed out in the chair beside my bed.

"Sam." I say but it comes out as more of a whisper. He opens his eyes and looks at me when he does, I see the tears fill his eyes.

"Thank God Colby, I thought you were gone... we all did." He seemed to notice the look in my eyes.

"Sam what about Y/N? Is she okay?" I say, urgency was clear in my voice. The girl I loved had to be okay, she just had to be.

"Yes, She's alright. But she's not awake yet, They said you woke up really fast. It's only been a few hours."

I feel a wave of relief wash over me. "My pants! Sam, I need my pants!"

He laughs a little and says "Don't worry Colby, we'll get you new pants."

"No, Sam, you don't get it the ring was in my pants pocket!" I say running my hands down my face.

"Oh shit, okay um what do I do? Do I ask the EMT's? Or the hospital?" He says pressing the button to call the nurse.

Moments later a short woman with dark purple hair walks in and gives us a smile, looking over her chart she checks my monitors before she looks at Sam and I.

"Is there anything I can help you guys with?" She asks. She has a slight hint of an accent, probably from the south.

"Yes actually, do you know where the clothes that I was wearing are?" I ask, a hint of desperation sinking into my tone.

"I can look for them for you. Is there something specific I'm looking for?" She asks. God thank you for this sweet woman.

"It's an engagement ring, It should be in my pants pocket. Also could you tell me anything about the girl who came in with me?" I say, hoping to figure out if she was okay.

"I will look for your ring, But as for Y/N... she has a concussion and a broken arm. Other than that she is okay, If you're feeling better later I'll take you down there to see her." she says, giving me and Sam a smile.

I feel tears in my eyes. "Thank you." She gives us a nod and leaves the room.

"So.. you're going to propose?" Sam asks, trying to lighten the mood.

"Yeah, after dinner, I was gonna make it special, I was going to take her to the beach and do it then, but you see how that went." I tell him wishing this never would've happened.

"Is the person who hit us okay?" I asked, not really wanting to know the answer, but asking it to keep the silence at bay.

"Uhm... about that, they don't know who hit you guys. When the paramedics arrived there was no one there, they say the driver fled the scene."

Figures. Coward couldn't face us after what he had done.

"Try and get some sleep Colby, I won't leave I promise." Sam tells me.

Nodding my head, I lean back and close my eyes. Not realizing how tired I was I fell asleep almost instantaneously.
