On the run

Tiredly, I sat up rubbing my eyes. We were staying in a dingy motel. We were on the run. Heather Dukes suicide was proved a murder, Westernburg blew up, and the Suicide Psychos were on the loose.

I look down at JD at my side who was sleeping peacefully at side. We had both had to go though so much. I was now going by the name of Silvia Armstrong. I had died my hair white and I constantly wore green contacts. I tried to be as unrecognisable as possible. We were trying to travel to California we wanted to be no where near Ohio. We had scrapped our old car and bought a new one under a whole different name. We had to eliminate every risk of being caught.

Everyone was talking about the tragedy of Westernburg. They one that we created. The police had not yet said who their suspects were or how they want to find them. I was scared for my life. I had thought of everything, at least I thought I did. I could not risk anything. I was standing on a tightrope and I couldn't afford to slip. "(Y/N)." I heard JDs voice say quietly behind me. "Hey baby." I said turning to him brushing his hair out of his eyes. "What time is it?" He groaned. Tiredly, I looked at the glowing digital clock to see that it was 5:47am.

"It's early, go back to sleep." I said softly to him. "No, we need to start getting ready for the road." He said trying to sit up put I just pushed him back down. "I'll do it, I won't be able to get back to sleep anyway." I said, he nodded before I kissed him on the forehead and slipped out of the bed. I pulled on some jeans under JDs shirt before moving into the bathroom.

I turned on the light to show the dark bags underneath my eyes. It's been hard for me to get to sleep ever since they announced that the suicides were fake, I fell asleep dreading that I would wake up in handcuffs. I started to run the tap as I packed our stuff away before quickly washing my face. I looked at my watch next to the sink to see that it was now 6am. I wanted to leave at 7am. I rushed into the main room and put a jumper on before starting too fold things and put them into bags.

We had been here for a few days and clothes were strung across the room. I started to collect them up and put them in the bags. By the time it was 6:30am everything was packed except what JD had to get changed into. I walked over to him and placed my hand on his shoulder.  "JD, honey. Time to wake up." His eyes fluttered open at the sound of his name. "Morning Beautiful." He said in a deep tired voice. "Come on, it's time to get ready." I laughed throwing his clothes in his face.

He groaned before sitting up. "What time did you go to sleep?" He asked as he pulled his shirt over his head. "I don't know." I sighed as he stood up so that I could make the bed. He walked up to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "You know you can take a break; I'll do everything else." He whispered in my ear. I always wanted to be distracted, it meant that I didn't have to worry as much. I looked up at him, he knew what I was thinking. "Here." He said pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket.  "No no, I should finish this then go put everything in the car." I said pushing the box away and turning my attention back to the bed sheets.

"(Y/N)." He said sternly turning me around. "Go outside and have a fag." He told me shoving the packet into my hands. I rolled my eyes before grabbing his jeans and taking his wallet out of the pocket. I grabbed my lighter before leaving the room and heading towards the vending machine outside of reception. I lit the cigarette and took a large drag before taking cash out of the wallet and shoving it into the machine. I grabbed my candy before turning around and spotting a young girl with her mum.

The mother picked up the girl and swung her in the air before placing her in the back seat of the car. I smiled. My mother was the best mum, she wasn't a good one though. If I ever had an argument at school, she would talk shit about their mothers with me. If I told her about someone, I didn't like she would tell me to headbutt them the next time I saw them. She would let me out till late in the night without knowing where I was. I loved her very much.

"(Y/N) are you ready to go?!" JD shouted from the car. "Yeah, one minute!" I shouted before putting out my cigarette, I took one last look at the child and her mother before heading over to the car. I threw JD his wallet before getting into the driver's seat. "Are you sure you don't want me to drive?" He asked as he took the leftover candy out of my hands. "Oh, just be quiet and put on some music would you." I told him before speeding off onto the freeway.

By the time it was 3pm we were at the border of Utah and I was knackered. We had got to a motel that luckily had a 7/11 next door to it. I was almost falling asleep at the wheel by the time JD had bought us a room.

"I think you should get some sleep." JD said as he placed one of our bags on the desk in front of our bed. I just laughed. "It's three in the afternoon, the fuck am I going to bed." I said rolling my eyes. "(Y/N) your shattered, you can hardly keep your eyes open. Now get some sleep." He said as he turned the TV on. I just glared at him as I yawned. "Fine, but only if you sleep next to me." I said crossing my arms. "Well duh." He said before taking off his trench coat and laying down next to me.

He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him causing me to lay my head on his chest. His fingers combed through hair and my eyes fluttered shut. The soft beat of his heart helped me quickly drift to sleep.
