nancy wheeler
stranger things season two episode six, titled, "the spy"
replacing jonathanas murray attempted to pour us another drink nancy was quick to cut in with, "oh no, no, no. we can't." i added, "yeah, no. no i've got to drive." a smile crossed murray's face as he laughed and said, "drive? what, tonight?" he leaned back in his chair as nancy and i said in sync, "our parents..." murray once again laughed and said "would be proud if they knew what you were up to." he leaned back forward and sat the bottle of vodka down on the table before once again leaning back. "just tell 'em you're at tammy's or dawn's or whoever's, and take my guest room." he toyed with the glass of alcohol in his hand. i looked over at nancy, "i mean, do... do you wanna stay? she looked back over at me, "well it is pretty late." "okay," i looked back over at murray, "uh... could i use the sofa?" i reached down and slapped it with my hand. he looked straight forward and shook his head, "okay i'm confused. what's going on here? a lovers' quarrel?" i chuckled slightly and pointed to nancy, "no, no. i mean, we're just friends." nancy quickly overlapped me and added "friends" with a slight laugh. murray leaned his head back and laughed, "you've told me a lot of shockers today, but that, that is the first lie." i felt the sofa move as nancy adjusted herself and slightly laughed, "it's not a lie." murray laughed for the eightieth time tonight, "no?, you're young, attractive. you've got chemistry, history, plus the real shit, shared trauma." with this nancy and i both looked away. murray focused solely on me, "trust issues am i right? something to do with your dad." i stared back at him and with forced confusion replied with, "what? no, i mean my dads..." "an asshole." nancy seemed pleased with her little comment. as murray continued, "hmm. it is a curse to see so clearly." he then focused on nancy. "you, you're harder to read. probably, like everyone, afraid of what would happen if you accepted yourself for who you really are and retreated back to the safety of... name?" he snapped his fingers as if asking his mind to remember. "name?" i added quietly, "steve" he tilted his head back and tried to recreate nancy's voice. "oh. steve. we like steve." i honestly thought it was kinda funny but it didn't feel like the right time to laugh. so i didn't. nancy was clearly annoyed. "yes." murray shook his head and continued, "but we don't love steve." nancy forced her confusion. i'm pretty sure this man just got inside nancy wheelers head. i'm impressed. "what? no, we... i mean, i do." murray lifted his right hand and pointed towards the girl on my right. "there it is, ladies and germs, the second lie of the evening." he crossed his legs, intertwined his fingers, and placed them on top of his knee, "so, how'd i do? my goodness. you two are adorable, aren't you?" nancy and i looked at each other then back down to the ground. he stood up, grabbed his bottle and continued. "listen, there's a pullout sofa in my study if you want it. but if i were you, i'd cut the bullshit and share the damn bed." nancy and i looked at each other before standing up and following him up the stairs. we went our separate ways, murray into his room, her into the guest room and myself into the study. i dropped down onto the couch and crossed my legs, "trust issues? trust issues." i uncrossed my legs and fidgeted with the blankets, "trust issues? i do not..." i immediately hopped off the couch and opened the door. i want to talk to nancy. much to my surprise she was already standing there. i guess we had the same thought. great minds think alike you know. she looked surprised to see me walking up to her, "oh hey." i shook my arms nervously, "hey" nancy looked up at me, "i just, uh... i... i just wanted to say that..." i walked closer to her, "oh, no don't... i mean... he's so drunk." she laughed and added, "wasted" i continued, "yeah, i mean, what? he knows us for a couple of hours, and he's got us all figured out?" i crossed my arms as nancy agreed, "exactly. god. okay, yeah i feel... i'm glad we feel the same way." i dropped my gaze to the ground. "yeah. yeah it's fine." we both stood there awkwardly for a moment and smiled and nodded until nancy said, "uh... so, uh, goodnight, i guess." we both took a few steps back "yeah, um, goodnight." i watched her turn around before turning and walking back towards the study. i watched her close her door and look back at me as i shut mine. i returned to my pullout couch and pulled the blankets over myself, shoving my face into the pillow once i got comfortable. i switched the light off before immediately turning it back on and leaving the study. i walked up to nancy's door and was about to knock before she opened it and stood in front of me. i took my chance and leaned in, attaching my lips to hers. she pulled back in surprise before immediately grabbing the sides of my face and pulling me back in. i reached down and grasped her hips before reaching my left hand around her shoulders and pulling her into me. the kisses got more urgent as i pushed her back into the room. she pulled back and whispered, "please just kiss me?" i smiled and pushed her down on the bed. we laid there for a moment, letting our breathing settle. i pulled her small frame into mine. she cuddled her head into my neck slowly kissing the skin there. i'm sure she was trying to be sweet and gentle but i'm also one hundred percent sure that there is going to be a huge hickey left there by tomorrow. i felt the kisses stop and nancy grazed her fingers across my chin. "so what does this make us?" i used the arm she was laying on to play with her hair, "it makes us whatever you wanna be nance." i could feel her smile against my skin. "you're mine then?" i intertwined my legs with hers, "if that's what you want then yes."
