Christopher
I fix my hair in the mirror before walking out the door, my twin, Leonardo, following close behind me.
“I still don’t know why I have to go to your stupid date, anyway.” He complains for the fifth time this morning.
“I told you, if she’s too boring we have to switch.” He sighs in annoyance. “I would do it for you too, bro.” I say as I start the car. He nods and doesn’t say another word until we reach the diner. “Now stay in here until I say, ok?” He nods and I jump out.
I walk into the diner and spot my-our- date; a pretty girl with light blond hair and dark blue eyes.
She sees me too and waves, a little too excitedly. I sigh quietly and make my way to her. I smile and sit down, “Sorry for the wait, I woke up late again.” She brushes away my excuse with a wave of her delicate hand and starts talking.
She keeps talking, even after we order out food and I finish half of my chocolate milkshake. I make an excuse to go to the bathroom and get up before she can say anymore. As soon as I get into the bathroom I pull out my phone and text Leo. A few minutes later he enters with a smirk.
“Didn’t go to well then?” He asks sarcastically.
“Best date of my life.” I roll my eyes. He laughs and starts fixing his hair in the mirror, we had done this plenty of times so we both knew we had to look identical to string along the girl for as long as we could. He finished quickly. Because we were wearing the same thing, he left promptly after flashing me a wink.Leonardo
I walked out of the bathroom confidently and sat down, complaining about the wait in the bathroom. She looks up from her milkshake and giggles, a sweet tinkling sound that made me smile as well. We started talking and I couldn’t understand why Chris didn’t like her, she was so interesting! She loved to hike but didn’t mind a day inside. She loved to cook but ate take-out at least once a week. I drank Chris’ strawberry milkshake and laughed, a lot. All through our conversation my phone was beeping like mad. I checked it once and they were all from Chris, I didn’t look at any but put it on silence. I loved talking to her and didn’t want anything to disrupt our time. Eventually she told me she had to go so, grudgingly, I walked her outside to her car. We looked at each other and without saying anything we came in for a hug. With her head on my shoulder I found myself wishing that we could stay like this for ever. Her hands gripped tighter around my back and she tilted her head so her lips were pressed against my ear.
“I don’t like liars, rude people and most of all: twins.” She took her head away and pecked my cheek. Goosebumps were rising on my skin as I watched her get into her car and drive away. I slowly walked back to the diner and sat down at the table across from Chris.
“Dude! That was so not cool. Leaving me in there for the whole time? Not what bros do.” He stops and looks at my frozen face of shock. “What’s your problem dude?” He asks, annoyed.
“She told me something before she left.” I said slowly, choosing my words carefully. I told him what she said and he scratches his head, thinking. We’re silent for a moment before he says anything.
“Dude, so what? Did you actually like her or something?” I felt the slight burn of heat on my face and he groaned. “Dude,” he strung out the word so it lasted at least 3 seconds. I shook my head and started concentrating.
“We’re all three of those, what do you think she’s going to do to us?” I started drumming my fingers on top of the table trying to think of something.
“She’s not going to do anything, she can’t. She’s a girl for God’s sake. They’re useless.” He sounded so sure I almost believed him. I stopped drumming and nodded. We’re silent again and he sips some of our leftover milkshake. “Dude,” he says, gagging. “Why’d you order strawberry? Gross.” He sticks his tongue out and scrunches up his face.
“Wait, you didn’t order it?” I asks, slightly surprised.
“No way, dude. I’m a chocolate man, through and through.” A thought occurred to me and I started getting worried.
“Dude, what if she spiked the drink?” He raises his eyebrow and me and opens his mouth to say something but I gasp as a painful sensation of ripping goes through my abdomen.THE END
