—— ∞ ——"Hope you don't mind pancakes."
Hyun-Ji looked up from the griddle in front of her when he didn't respond right away to see him standing in the entrance to the kitchen wearing comfy pajama pants, a t-shirt, and an unreadable expression. When their eyes met he seemed to snap out of his daze and smiled bashfully, scratching the back of his head.
"Pancakes sound great. T-Thank you," he said shyly, finally walking into the room.
From her seat in her high chair, Hyori began to babble and blow raspberries at Jungkook once she heard his voice. Little fingers reached out for him as he came closer, and he leaned over and gave her several quick kisses on her forehead before pulling up a chair to sit near her.
"What do you have there?" He asked her, his voice going slightly higher than its normal pitch.
"Say 'pancakes'," Hyun-Ji answered for her, trying to teach her another word.
Hyori responded to neither and instead picked up another piece of pancake that Hyun-Ji tore into little pieces for her and smashed it into her mouth. She then smiled up at Jungkook, showing off her two bottom teeth, and offered him some of her breakfast.
"Thank you," Jungkook smiled and ate the pancake while making nom nom sounds. Hyori giggled at his reaction and picked up another piece, holding it up for him to eat, her eyes wide and sparkling.
Jungkook laughed, his nose scrunching, and ate the piece with more theatrics than necessary. He nom'ed loudly and Hyori began to laugh so hard her eyes disappeared. She offered him a third piece, looking up at him expectantly for him to do it again.
Hyun-Ji giggled at the pair as she flipped the browning batch of pancakes on the griddle. "She likes repetition," she said.
Hyori could listen to the same song 128 times and would still dance to it and screech like a pterodactyl every single time.
"I see that now!" Jungkook nom'ed that piece as well and laughed at her laughter. "You're going to feed me all of your breakfast, Angel."
A plate of steaming pancakes was placed in front of him along with maple syrup, interrupting his game with Hyori. He looked down at it hungrily, then up at Hyun-Ji as she sat across from him with a plate of her own.
Morning sunlight streamed in through the glass patio doors, bathing the trio in its warmth. Hyun-Ji watched them eat with the same enthusiasm, a soft smile playing on her lips as she watched him carefully cut his pancakes and smile when he succeeded.
