"Sirens... Sirens..." I said barely above a whisper as a burning sensation ran through my chest and it soon began to grow harder to breath. I soon seen a light and began to panic. Was I dying? Was this the end for me? A strange man came into my view and everything became clear and I knew then that I did not die. No instead I caught a bullet wound to the chest. "Ma'am! Ma'am!" The strange man snapped me out my thoughts, as I was now in the ambulance hooked up to many wires. "What's your name?" The man had looked at me as if that wasn't the first time he'd asked. "Dawn Harris," I said in a panic trying to feel my chest getting caught up in the wires that were laying across my body. "Calm down Ms. Harris, you were shot and we're taking you Methodist Hospital. Is there anyone we call?" The man said as he grabbed my arms gently and laid them by my sides. Before I could answer everything became blurry and hard to stay awake, then everything went black.

*beep* *beep* *beep*

I opened my eyes only to shut them back due to the brightness of the room. I heard the curtains slide back together and I slowly opened my eyes again and see a face I never thought I would see again. "What are you doing here?" I asked with a raspy, dry voice. "Dawn you're my daughter, why wouldn't I come see you? When they called me saying that you had been shot and rushed to the hospital, I rushed right over," she said as she handed me small glass of water. She looked at me with sorrow in her eyes but I could right through her, she didn't care about me. I slowly drank it and set it back on the tray. I looked at her with nothing but hate in my eyes, "get out." She looked at me puzzled as if I had spoke in a different language. "Did you not hear me? Get out! Get the fuck out!" I spat at her as if she was no one. "Why are you being like this?" She asked in tears, she then tried to hug me as if I didn't just tell her to get out. I swatted her hands away and looked at her as if she had 3 heads laying on her shoulders. "You are the reason I'm here. They came after me looking for you!" I yelled, quickly grabbing my chest in pain, forgetting about the wound that will soon turn into an ugly scare. "You deserve everything that happened to you, I told you to stay away from your brother and yet you disobeyed me and ran to him. Now he's dead and it's all your fault." She laughed and grabbed her things walking to the door. "Get out and go to hell," I said with tears running down my face trying to hold back all the anger I had towards this women. "I'll tell your brother I said hello," she laughed as she walked out."

I sat the photo of me and my brother with our parents when we were little down on the night stand by my bed, snapping out of my thoughts when I heard a small cry coming from the other room. I gently smiled and walked to my daughter's room. I gently picked up my 3 month old daughter, rose, as she squirmed in my arms falling into my chest. "I hear you, i hear you. Mommy sorry," I cooed as her light brown eyes looked up at me. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle out of the fridge. I pump while she sleeps and be prepared for my chunky butt when she wakes up hungry. I heat her body up and tested it on my hand before giving it to her. I watched as she chugged away on the milk letting it run down the sides of her mouth.
*bang* *bang*
"Dawn open up! It's me, Regina!" My mom's stepsister sat there knocking until I opened the door moving aside as she rushed in. "Why are you not dress? The funeral starts in a hour," she said taking the baby out of my arms. I watched as she cooed over Rose, "I'm not going," I said bluntly walking into the kitchen to fix me a bowl of cereal. Regina, hot on my heels, followed me in the kitchen. "What do you mean you're not going, this is your mother's funeral," she said watching me fix my bowl of cereal. "I don't want to go, end of discussion," I began to eat my cereal as she shook her head at me. She looked at me as she was about to say something but decided against and continued to play with Rose until I finished my cereal. She carefully gave her back to me and walked towards the door. "I get she wasn't the best but I thought you were better than her," she sighed as she walked out shutting the door behind her. She shocked me with her words and I thought about what she said, I was in fact turning into my mother by holding a grudge but oh well she threw negativity my way my entire life so I'm politely throwing it.

After sitting there for a few minutes as Rose chewed on her fingers, I got up and headed to the bathroom grabbing her carseat on the way. I sat the carseat on the floor, setting rose in it. After making she was safe and occupied, I stripped and turned the shower on. I waited until it was warm enough before getting in and washing up. I got out, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around me, grabbing Rose on my way out of the bathroom. I sat her on the bed and dried off then getting ready for the funeral. Once I was ready, I bathed Rose and got her dressed and ready. I prepped her diaper bag and made sure she had her pacifier and enough bottles for the day. After checking and making sure I had everything and the house was locked up, I unlocked the car doors and put Rose in the back and strapped her in. Once I got in the car, I looked at myself in the side mirror and fixed myself. I started the car and pulled out of the driveway and headed straight to the church where the funeral was held.
