Since the beginning of time, people have looked towards the divine to explain everything. Many different religions were made to solve these problems and many wars were started over people thinking that one specific religion was better than others. Over time, religions died and grew, and there was always a group of people who believed in them. It wasn't until recent ages that people started straying away from their gods, that they started seeking scientific answers. And they found them. Now, in this already crazy world, we have facts and opinions and fights over facts and opinions. Eventually, those fights died down and people started to hate others in silence, only voicing what they thought when they deemed it safe to do so.
Most religions, however, have similar aspects. Most have an afterlife, with a few places to go. Each afterlife has some sort of heaven or hell to it, a place to go when you are good, and a place to go when you are bad. Everyone wants to end up in the good place, so they try to avoid being bad. They attend services, purify themselves, or whatever it is they have to do to get to the heavenly place. Most have a "ruler" for each of the places. The one who ends up in charge of the bad place is usually seen as scary and repulsive, while the one who runs the good place is wonderful and kind. There are other similarities as well, but there are almost too many to list.
Now, humans are right. There are divine influences that are watching over them, it's just that they were wrong most everything else.
There are two "gods" that watch over the earth. One is in charge of the bad place, and the other the good place. There have been many names for these two places, but their actual names are nowhere close to what the humans call them. The good place is called The Corporate, and the one who watches over it is called Colelicola, while the bad place is called The Chaos, and the one who watches over that is called Daemonium.
Now Colelicola was in charge of watching over the Earth and The Corporate, and it was driving him crazy. These humans were so reckless, running around and destroying everything in sight. They were even starting to destroy the Earth and all they were doing about it was fighting! Every prayer that got sent up to The Corporate was becoming more and more ridiculous each day and they were seriously draining his power. He used to be able to answer everyone ones' prayers, but that was when there were fewer humans and they were so much more simple. Now they are multiplying like rabbits and Colelicola can't keep up with them.
On the other hand, Daemonium has it quite easy. All he has to do is tempt people to do bad things, collect their souls when they die, and keep the lost souls from roaming around the Earth. Although the death toll has seriously risen since the invention of the gun, it's still not more than he can handle. Unlike Colelicola, Daemonium is growing bored with his job. It's far too easy and he wants a chance to let loose and just go crazy, but Colelicola would never let him because it would ruin his precious order. Now, Daemonium is bound by Cosmic Contract to obey Colelicola because he's the one who is ruling the entire Earth, so he just tries to put up with, but that has been getting harder and harder to do.
Colelicola and Daemonium have meetings every fifty years, to make sure that things are running smoothly on both sides, and their next meeting is quite soon, and both are planning to bring up their grievances. They each have even made up a list of reasons why they should get what they want. Little do they know; they each want what the other has.
