Kairi is an angel. He's got the fluffy white wings, perfect voice, the whole bit. Normally, he would be in Heaven delivering messages or flying around with his friends, but today he decided to take a trip to Earth. He didn't know that his decision was about to change his life.
So, since his wings would cause a catastrophe if humans saw them, Kairi puts a spell on them to make them undetectable to humans. His wings are still there, the people just can't see or feel them. However, this spell doesn't stop other non-human creatures from seeing or feeling them.
For the destination of this trip, he settled on the lovely city of Seattle to see the pier and walk through Pike Place. The sky was clear and the sun felt good on this rare occasion. As he walked through the streets, he saw one of those electric scooters that you can rent and thought it would be fun to ride since he's never done it before. He got on and rode around with no particular destination in mind. The wind on his face coupled with the occasional breeze almost reminded him of how it feels to fly.
As he got lost in thought, he didn't notice the pothole in the road. At the last second he swerved to try and avoid it but ultimately fell onto the concrete. Others around him gasped and asked if he was okay. One person in particular came over and helped him up.
"Oh my god are you ok?" The person asked.
Kairi, a bit shocked still, replied, "Yeah I'm fine, you shouldn't take the Lord's name in vain like that."
"Uh, I don't think I have to worry about that too much," the other person chuckled.
Confused, Kairi looked up and met a pair of red irises paired with a sly grin. He gasped and tried to jump away. In his surprise, his wings flared up which caused a shot of pain to wrack through him.
"A-ah ow, ow, ow," he gasped as he tried to reach for his right wing where the pain was.
"Oh shit your wing. We need to get you out of here." The person tried to guide Kairi away by his arm but he was having none of it.
"Uh no thanks, I am not going anywhere with you. You're a demon," he said while pulling his arm out of said demon's grasp. He attempted to pick up the scooter and walk away but was stopped by the hell-spawn stepping in front of him and blocking his path.
"Listen, I know you're not supposed to like me, but you're hurt and need to get somewhere private so can you just trust me for like two seconds?"
Kairi looked at him dumbfounded. "Are you even listening to yourself? I," he looked around to make sure no one was listening, "an angel, am not going to trust you, a demon! Now please leave me alone before I make an even bigger scene." He brushed past the taller creature and walked away fast. After a few seconds, he turned his head to make sure he wasn't being followed and didn't see the demon anywhere. He shook his head and continued on.
A few minutes later, the shock started to wear off which caused pain to seep into Kairi's back and shoulder. He bit his lip and winced to try and keep his whimpers from escaping. He kept walking but the pain became unbearable so he ducked into the nearest ally and around the corner to get away from everyone. Once he was sure no one could see him, he took the spell off and inspected his wing.
It was limp against his back but if he tried to pick it up the movement would send pain straight through his body. He looked at it further and finally found the source of the problem. The phalanges in his wing were bent in an unnatural shape.
"Oh no no no this cannot be happening right now," he whispered to himself. His lip wobbled as tears made their way to his eyes. How in the world was he going to fix this? He couldn't use any spells since the only one allowed on Earth was to conceal his wings. Anything else was prohibited.
Kairi wracked his brain to try and find any solution. He ran his hands through his hair and pulled slightly.
"Come on, Kairi, think!" At this point his tears spilled down his cheeks in both pain and panic. He sat down before his knees gave out and cried into his hands.
The sun was setting and the temperature started to drop. He didn't have a jacket because he had planned to be home by the time it got cold. Now he's stranded on Earth with a broken wing and no way to contact Heaven.
Once his tears had dried, he didn't know what else to do so he curled up as much as he could without hurting himself even more and laid there. Eventually, his eyes closed and his breath evened out.
In his half-asleep state he heard someone say, "Geez angel, you're gonna get yourself killed out here." He didn't get time to think more on it before he succumbed to sleep.
