auden woke to someone poking her in the shoulder. rubbing her eyes, she turned to see who it was. her twin brother, keats, leaned over to whisper to her.
"umma says that if you don't stop the buzzing from your phone, she'll leave you on the plane when we get back to america."
auden looked over to see her mother punctuate keats's statement with a signature asian mother death glare. auden laughed quietly, but quickly reached into her pocket for her phone. the screen lit up again- a message from her cousin, yasmin. well. messages.
yasmin - 14 messages
auden yawned and clicked on the messages.
yasmin: AUDEN
yasmin: AUDEN JAMES
yasmin: 야, 깡패야! [hey, punk!]
yasmin: guess what
yasmin: you're going to love me
yasmin: i'm matchmaking again
auden groaned to herself.
yasmin: you're going to love me for this, i promise

yasmin: hey, answer me
yasmin: 야, 대답해 [hey, answer]
yasmin: there's a new girl at school
yasmin: she's gorgeous
yasmin: i think you'd like her
yasmin: i'm going to introduce you guys
auden tried not to let her interest be piqued. another message popped up.
yasmin: i can see that you read my messages! are you home yet?
auden tapped in a response. no, waiting for the second plane. who's the girl?

auden: ?
yasmin: knew you'd be interested
auden: oh my lord, yaz, just answer
yasmin: she's supa cute. her name is everly

auden waited.

her mother settled back into her own seat, shutting her eyes. "wake me up when plane come here."

yasmin: prepare to meet your future wife tomorrow, aud! wear something that's cute and says, 'i'm definitely gay'
auden sighed and tucked her phone back into her pocket.
