I rub my hands up my body that's laced in a thin layer of sweat. "Why is it so goddamn hot?" I groan to myself. Looking over from my bed into the mirror I see I'm wearing only my lace panties. My head shifts to my clock to see its 4:30 am.

Another sleepless night

Stretching one last time, I decide it's best to just get up. This gives me time to better plan my bum attire for school. Walking into my closet I begin my journey shifting through the forest of clothes in my possession. Being simple in my taste, and close to many of my pieces, there are countless articles of clothing to never even have the tag taken off.

After I've chosen the perfect attire, something that won't draw attention from the boys who think with the nerves in their pants, I trudge into the bathroom to begin another dreaded day.

I believe in sticking to rituals, and one of mine happens to be FaceTiming Rachel every morning. Our endless laughter, waking up my parents way before their alarms going off, and the words passed to one another make the days seem more livable.

"What's up sexy?" I hear her voice
ring through the bathroom, instantly brightening my mood, for I love her dearly.

Smirking I look into my bathroom mirror to put on the minimum amount of makeup to hide the blemishes my face so kindly produced.

"Hey Ray. How'd you sleep?" I ask using the nickname I gave her, knowing she hates it. I smile when I hear her scoff.

"Way better then you I can tell, you look like shit girly." She's always been the most blunt of anyone I ever knew. Probably the reason I love her so much.

"But never mind that, a new family moved in next door to you. I had to tell you, because I know you don't pay anyone any mind."

"How can I Rachel?  People, besides you, are not of my concern." I've never been one to care for people too much. Finding the drama they produce very unnecessary, I learned how to distance myself without coming across as bitchy.

"Hannah, you have to care about people at some point. You're beautiful, and your soul is a blessing in this messed up world. I can't bare the thought of people not being able to experience what I've been blessed with waking up to every morning." Her words touch my heart deeply. I know she's right, but I've never been able to bring myself to trusting the souls I come in contact with on a daily. Afraid they will see all the dirty laundry my life holds, and disappear in the blink of an eye.

"Do you want to leave earlier to meet me at the coffee shop?" I ask in hopes of quickly changing the conversation.

"Oh, sure Hannah. I'll meet you there in an hour." She hangs up leaving me to get ready so I can head out.

I walk down the steps of my apartment home that I share with my mom, dad, big brother, and three little sisters.

The streets are quiet as I make my way down the paved sidewalk. The morning breeze feeling like heaven on my face. I put my earbuds in, and escape in the world of scenarios, and concerts that my imagination has created for my entertainment.

When I approach downtown, the streets start to look a little more alive. With convertibles, and skateboarders pouring outside to greet the morning sun. I take my earbuds out, I love the sound of the rushing lives of the strangers hurrying past me to get wherever life is taking them.

Down on the bay there is a reggae band playing Bob Marley classics, as a crowd collects around them, throwing money, and compliments their way. I turn the corner, and open the door to the coffee store where I see Rachel sitting, looking through the window at the young reckless folks running to the beach. Living in California, lives never stop. Not even for the wee hours of the morning. Always something to do, it makes for a perfect home for the forever beating hearts.

I run up behind her, and hug her neck. Kissing her cheek, not seeing her for a few days seems like years to me.

"Hey Rachel. I'm glad your back home." She giggles at my affection, and grabs my hand.
"I'm glad I'm back too. I've missed you, and I have so much to tell you." Her eyes light up like a spot light. An accurate description, for she makes you feel like the only person in the world when she looks at you.

I take a seat right beside her, and look at her smiling face that never frowns. Such a beautiful attitude to have. It makes someone so loved, and cherished.

"Start from the beginning Rachel, and I don't want you to miss a single detail." I smile, and lay my head on my hands like a child would. Smiling at her as she glows, telling me every ounce of her journey.

Making our way through the school yard we see jocks throwing footballs, and rebels throwing middle fingers in the air.  The mixture of people in the school is like nothing I've ever seen before. So different in every aspect, yet fitting together so well, brings so much meaning to the saying "opposites attract".

"Hey Hannah, you know about how I told you about that family who lives next to you?" Rachel turns to look at me.

"Yeah, what about them?" I question, for I had truthfully forgot for a split second. Like I said, I don't think much of people.

"Right over there, are 1....2....3....6 of them." She points over to a table where six big haired boys sit, joking with one another.

"SIX?" I ask in amazement. If there are anymore kids, their parents must have gotten busy.

"Yeah, six. Many girls are drooling over them, but I don't see much about them to be honest with you." She comments before adding "let's go to class." Grabbing my hand she drags my off into the large school.
