Astrid's POV

What had they done to Sam? My mind was racing. I heard them walk into his room. Then I heard a few loud hits of some sort. The sound was muffled and unidentifiable, although it sounded like a whip. The peacekeepers wouldn't do that though, right? Who am I kidding, of course they would. Sam wasn't even answering my knocks. It was fun at first. He had no idea what I was doing. I think he heard me mumbling under my breath though and caught on. The walls were thin but the rooms were big. The loud noises I heard coming from his room - I refuse to say it was a whip -  were lost in an echoe. The mumbles didn't travel far to reach my ears though. After I heard the noise three peacekeepers came into my room.

" Stop banging!" The tallest one barked at me. Then he nodded at the shortest one. The short man walked towards me and looked at me appologetically through his helmet, then grabbed my arms, tied them behind my back and tied my legs too. I was confused, it gave the man a few seconds to hit me. He punched me hard, hitting my nose. Anger surged through me knowing they had hurt Sam nuch more than they had me. I broke out of the fraying rope easily and the three men left. The rope was old and alomost completly worn out. It was like breaking through paper.

I lay on the old sofa and waited. I knew communicating with Sam was not a good idea. Especially since he never answered. A tear fell down my cheek. To break Sam's defiance you had to hurt him badly, and sometimes even then he was still as stubborn as ever. They would have had to hit him hard. A loud crash came from Sam's room. I turned my head quickly in that direction listening carefully for another sound. A groan of pain. Footsteps. After that I heard nothing. No taps on the wall, nothing.

Sam's pov

I wanted to reply to Astrid, I really did. When The rope they tied to the ceiling started giving out I saw it as an oppertunity and worked at it carefully. Making sure I didn't tighten the knots. I was tied higher than I thought though and when I hit the ground my wounds seared in white hot pain. After lying on the ground all I could do was walk slowly over to the sofa and just sit there. I forgot about Astrid because of the pain.

Now, I'm lying with my back to the wall. It was the fastest and least painful way to lie down. I couldn't reach the wall without causing my back to feel like I'm being whipped all over again. I thought getting my fingers stuck in a door hurt, not as much as this. Nothing hurt as much as this. I never believed the peacekeepers were good. But I never thought they would do this.

I heard footsteps coming to my door. I ignored them. It was probably the peacekeepers coming in to see if I was up to something. Seriously though, what could I be up to? My back hurt when I took a breath. What coul I possibly be diong? They barged into my room and started yelling.

" What is the meaning of all this noise!" The man that whipped me yelled.

"We thought you had learned your lesson." That was the man that tied me to the ceiling.

The man that had locked the door and brought the whip stood there quietly. I noticed he was the shorest one there. He was probably just there in case.  He never really did anything of importance.

The first man came and pushed me on the floor. " Get up! At least if you're going to be a rebel go through it entirely. Face your punishment."

Was he seriously yelling at me for falling. It was their fault They didn't tie me well enough. Not wanting to look weak I got on my feet. I groan in pain as I push myself up. The man pushes me hard against the wall.  I hit it and let out a scream of pain. They leave the room quickly and I stay on the floor. I keep my eyes closed controling my breathing. The pain is unbearable. I can hear Astrid knocking on the wall again. Even though I am completly capable of answering because I am right next to the wall, I don't. I don't want her to be whipped.

Astrid's pov

Now I know they've whipped him. Going back on the memory I can clearly hear the sound of leather on skin. It's an ear breaking noise. I hear a man walking towards my door and I brace myself for what's to come. It's the short man from before.

"Come with me." He said quietly. " It's time to go." I get up off the couch and try to look into Sam's room. His door's closed. He must be gone, even my door was halfway open. I let that though enter my mind and calm me down. When I get to the train he'll be sitting there waiting for me. We'll hug and he'll be fine. He'll tell me he just fell. Yes, we'll both be fine.

The Peacekeepers lead me out at gunpoint. The cold guns digging into my back. You would think I'm a criminal. I bet if I walk a little to the side, they'll kill me. So, I keep walking straight, being careful to follow right behing the peacekeepers that are in front of me.

I walk up the three steps and enter the train. The lady that reaped my name, along with Sam's waved at me smiling widely.

"Straight down, The third room to the left is yours, second is Sam's." She said pointing. " Put on watever you like, we are having a dinner with your mentor."

As I walk past the second door I open it and glance in, smiling. Sam's not in his room. Could it be that he's too hurt to walk? Will they bring him in later. Are they hurting him right now?

Question fill my ming and tears rush down my face as I run into my assigned room and I flop on the soft duvet covers and lay there crying.
