Hey! So just to fully explain the AU a little better before we get into it;
Kokichi and Kaito go to the same school together, and Kaito in this is actually called Kistrian as his parents wanted him to be different from the other Christians. None of the others are at his school (Kaikori High), but Maki (Akari) is in the same town as him. She goes to Artico high, and are friends with Himiko and Angie (an exchange student).
Saihara lives a few towns over and goes to Sycho High; him and Tsum go to the same school and are close friends. There has also been many past contestants from that school in general. For the past three years he had put in his application but had never been accepted due to not 'having enough of a solid backstory' or 'distinctive face'.
While Kaede is homeschooled. She isn't a very happy person, though very bright and skilled. Out shined by her twin sister, in the past few years her depression had made her lock herself in her room. Her hair matted by not washing, and always bags under her eyes- she is a far cry for the Kaede featured on the show
