The pitter-patter of the young girl's footsteps in the night startled me. She wasn't looking where she was going, and suddenly ran straight into me. Luckily, just before she fell, I caught her, and her pink eyes were widened with fear as she stared at me.

"You okay there, kiddo?" I asked.

She didn't say anything in return, just shook her head. She held out her right arm. The girl was bleeding, and the cut was deep.

Shit. I didn't have any medical supplies with me, and teleporting them in would only draw unwanted attention to myself.
I sighed, carefully picking up the girl.

"Hey, kiddo. Hold on tight, okay? This will only take a second."

As soon as I heard the girl's grip on me tighten, I whispered something under my breath.

Blue light surrounded us as the teleportation spell did its job, and we were soon in front of the nearest hospital.

"Told you it wouldn't take long."

I looked over my shoulder, seeing a small smile curl onto the little girl's face.

I took her inside and explained the situation to the front desk, and soon enough, one of the nurses led the girl back to get bandaged up.

I sat down in one of the chairs, drumming my fingers on the nearby table. There were multiple questions running through my head at the time: Who was this girl, and why was she bleeding? Moreover, why didn't she say a single word to me? Was she mute?

I was interrupted from my thoughts by the sound of footsteps.

The young girl ran over to me, wrapping her arms around me. Her right arm was now bandaged up, and she winced when she moved it.

"The cut was really deep, so we had to stitch it up. Lilly was such a brave girl through it all, though."

"Lilly? That's your name?" I directed my question to the young girl, who nodded happily in response.

"Got it." I responded to the doctor who had brought her back out.

I stood up to walk out the door when the doctor stopped me.

"Mr.…"

"Rhialas."

"...Right. Mr. Rhialas. Lilly seems to be mute, showing no verbal responses to our questions."

I had a feeling that was the case.

"Gotcha, doc." I grabbed Lilly's hand. "Is that all?"

He nodded. "Yes. You may go now."

"Thank you."

We soon left, Lilly clinging to me like a little lost puppy. I hated to admit it, but I was starting to get attached to her.

Can you imagine? Me, a demon, becoming attached to a human? Ha! Mother would have a field day with that.

Regardless, I asked her if she had a home. She shook her head, gazing at the ground.

I sighed. Well, I couldn't just leave her all by herself, now could I?

"You can stay with me, if you want."

Lilly seemed to like that idea, grinning wider than I had ever seen her grin before.

"Alright," I said as I squeezed her hand tightly, "Hold onto me. We're gonna teleport again."

She grabbed onto me as tightly as she could, and I whispered something under my breath again.

After teleporting, we had arrived at my house. However, Lilly didn't look good. Apparently being a human in the demon realm took a lot out of her. I picked her up and carried her in the chaotic mess that was my house.
