I know that Rhialas had told me to go back to the guest room, but I couldn't remember my way back from his room. So I stood outside his door, waiting for him to get done  with his important phone call.

I swear I didn't mean to eavesdrop on the conversation. I just ended up overhearing it because of where I stood. I didn't even understand a lot of what was said, but that might have been because of the door that was muffling the voices.

My eyes widened when I heard Rhialas say something that I never thought I'd ever hear him say.

"Why?! Why should I have to end more innocent people's lives?!"

I couldn't hear the response, but I had taken a few steps back in shock regardless. I felt myself tearing up and I didn't know why.

What did Rhialas mean by "more?" Was he a murderer? Should I have trusted him in the first place?

Question after question swirled through my brain, and it was enough to make me dizzy as I fell backwards and onto the floor. My back was killing me from the fall, and now my heart was racing, as well.

I didn't know what to do. I had no way of verbally confronting him, and I felt like if he even found out I was listening, that I would get in trouble. He would hurt me.

He would be just like my mom.

I stayed there on the floor for what had felt like hours, until I finally heard the bedroom door swing open.

"Lilly? You can-- Oh my gosh, Lilly!"

I heard footsteps running towards me, and suddenly felt Rhialas swoop me up in his arms.

"Are you okay?" He asked me.

I nodded my head. I didn't want him knowing that I hadn't figured out my way back to the guest room. It would have made me feel stupid.

He smiled. "Good. Now come on. You can sleep with me in my bed, okay?"

I smiled, nodding happily.

I'd never been good with sleeping alone. Even when my mother forced me to, I could never get a good enough sleep unless I was with someone else. That might have sounded clingy of me, but it was the truth.
