MAYBE YUKIO WAKATOSHI WAS CRAZY. Maybe she was crazy for hoping to be something other than what she was "destined" to be. Maybe she was crazy for pouring her heart into something her parents considered a "waste of time". Maybe she was crazy for wanting to be something that "wasn't a real job".
Maybe she was crazy, but she was okay with that. She was okay with loving something more than she loved herself. She was okay with yearning to do what she loved. She was okay with having dreams bigger than herself. She was okay with it all.
But she wasn't okay with being forced to no longer love it. She wasn't okay with the way her parents forced doctoring upon her. She wasn't okay with people calling her dreams a pipe dream when she knew it was more than that. She wasn't okay with it at all.
All she wanted was a savior. Someone to come in and tell her that the dreams she dreamed were real. She wanted someone to tell her she could be who she wanted to be and do what she wanted to do, no matter what consequences she might face– because dreams are more than people and more than wishing if you can make them come true.
So, yeah, she was a little bummed when she realized no savior was coming her way and that she had to settle for her parents dreams rather than her own because being a doctor was normal; it was a Wakatoshi birthright. And her parents would be damned if she didn't accept what was rightfully hers.
Maybe– just maybe, her savior will come in the form of an angry boy who had nothing going for him besides his spot on the volleyball team.
But, all she could do was wait for a sign that her dreams were worth it.
Maybe, he was her sign.
