Prompt for a Pledge! : Prompt 1

Niall watched the boy silently from his table in the middle of the cafeteria. He would normally be laughing along to whatever stupid joke his friends were telling, but he couldn't keep his eyes from the table across the room. The table that contained the one person who had caught his attention and kept it for more than a week.

He knew he couldn't just go up to the curly haired, green eyed boy and ask him out. There was no way Harry would agree. This would be the only time Niall would regret his reputation.

As he stared intently at the way Harry quietly talked and laughed with his friends, he pondered how he could get the other boy's attention for himself. Niall was sure he would have to do something he wasn't used to doing, work for it.

As he looked around at who Harry was sitting with he spotted the boy's best friend, Liam Payne. Liam was one of the nerd's, but never actually considered one. He was too nice for anyone to actually be mean to him. Even Niall admitted it would be like kicking a puppy.

Liam, he decided, would be his best bet to get Harry. He would need to know more about Harry to be able to win him over and who better than to ask but his best friend.

"Hey Liam." Niall called out as he caught up to the older boy after school at his locker. He watched as Liam's eyebrow rose in response, clearly curious as to why Niall would want to talk to him.

"Yeah?" Liam asked as he stopped in the hallway, turning to face the blonde boy that had come up to him.

Niall fidgeted for a moment, trying to think of something to say. He hadn't actually thought this part of his plan out. "Uhm, the thing is." He started, a faint blush on his cheeks. "I kind of wanted to ask you about Harry?"

Niall could see the curious look in Liam's eyes turn to suspicious and untrusting. It took all of his effort not to groan out loud when he realized that he would also have to win over Liam as a friend to even get a chance with Harry.

"What about him?"

Niall had to give him credit, the older boy had been able to keep his voice even and without emotion when he asked it.

"I want to ask him out." Niall said bluntly, seeing no reason to beat around the bush at this point, especially if Liam was already most likely going to say no. "And I need your help to do it, I guess." He finished with a shrug.

He blushed slightly as Liam's eyes raked over his body. He knew that the other boy was trying to figure out his motives and whether he could trust him or not.

"Why?" Was all he said in the end, this time suspicion was clear in his voice.

"I like him." Niall shrugged, but not with his usual arrogance he used when talking about his dating life. He wanted Liam to trust him, not hate him even more.

"How do I know he's not going to just become another one of your conquests?" Liam asked carefully. "Because Harry isn't like that. He isn't a slut."

Niall couldn't help but glare as Liam insinuated that he was a slut, but didn't bother arguing with him. "Look I know I have a reputation, but it's different with Harry."

Liam scoffed slightly, rolling his eyes. "How am I supposed to believe that?"

"Because I'm actually coming to you for help." Niall cried desperately, pulling on his blonde hair. "Look I just want your help winning him over. He's different. I don't know why, but he is. And if I dump him in a week feel free to kick my ass."

Liam carefully considered the boy in front of him. He could easily dismiss Niall, it wouldn't be hard for him to walk away now and it would ensure his best friend's heart stays intact. But he could see that Niall was being at least somewhat genuine. It was the offer to let Liam beat him that led Liam to make his decision. Everyone knew Niall didn't like pain having all grown up together.

"Okay. I'll help."

The next day Niall walked into the cafeteria and headed straight to Harry's table. Liam had coached him all day yesterday on how to win over the younger boy. He had to be polite, he had to offer to take him to his favorite restaurant, and he had to blush a little, which had confused Niall to be honest but Liam had reassured him that it would definitely work.

"Uhm Harry?" Niall started softly, smiling slightly when the younger boy turned to face him. He could see the confusion on Harry's face and blushed slightly at he thought about what he was about to say and the fact that Harry could easily say no.

"Yes?" Harry responded after a few moments of silence where Niall internally panicked.

"O-okay so I know we don't talk and I know I have a reputation, but for some reason you're different. And I'd just really like to figure out why you are and get to know you better. Well if you'll let me of course." Niall rambled as his nerves took over. He had asked out plenty of people before, but this was the first time that it actually mattered. He took a deep breath before just blurting out. "Will you go out with me on Saturday night to Darcy's?"

Niall fidgeted as he waited for Harry to answer. It was only a minute or so but to Niall it felt like years between his answer and the curly haired boys answer.

"Sure Niall" Harry answered, smiling softly at the boy standing above him.

"Great." Niall responded, his usual confidence coming back to him as he moved to sit next to Harry. For the rest of lunch they just talked, about their date, about school, about anything. And as the bell rang Niall knew that he hadn't been wrong when he said Harry would be different. It had only been one lunch but he already wants to know everything about the other boy. Niall knew that Harry was special.
