I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock. I look at my phone and it is 4: 30 am. Its time to start my day. Its summer but I live on my grandparent's farm. My mother OD when I was 7 and my father diapered years ago. My grandma Bonnie and grandpa Jim took me in. Their farm has been in this family for around 200 years. I should start getting ready I guess. I crawl out of my bed and walk to my bathroom. I look for my hairbrush. " I know its somewhere in here,". I rummage around my bathroom some more and then I find it in a drawer. " aha!" I pull it out and start brushing my hair. My hairs got to be at least to my hips. My hair is silver. I dyed it last month after my first rodeo of the year. My eyes are an amberish color; little spects of gold and deep red complements each other.. I stare into the mirror and look at my hair. After putting mascara on, and french braiding my hair I go back into my room.
The sun was just rising. I start going through my closet to find something to wear. I through a pair of my horseback jeans on my bed, and start to look for shirts. I found a plain black shirt and threw it on my bed with my jeans. I grab a bra and a pair of underwear and change into those, then into the pants and my shirt.
( Start song)
I jog down the stair to the kitchen and grab an apple for Cherokee. I pull on my blue cowboy boots that are by the door and grab my cream-colored cowboy hat of the hat hanger and put it on and open and close the door quietly so I do not wake my grandparents. The horse pasture is not far from the house. I spot my beautiful baby girl. Without me saying anything she starts running to me. I walk up to the gate and open it. I don't really need a halter anymore, because she can be trusted without one. I wait for her to come out then shut the gate. I run my hand down her neck as she looks at me. Cherokee is a chestnut paint horse with two blue eyes. She has a medicine hat look to her. She is my everything. She is beautiful. She is my world.
Both of us walk to the barn. She knows what to do since we have done this every morning for the past two years, so she just stands in the middle of the barn, and waits for me. I go to grab her saddle and saddle pad and some treats from the tack room. I grabbed the treats and shoved them in my pockets and picked the saddle and saddle blanket ( the saddle blanket is under the saddle) up. I walked back out to Cherokee and her pretty blue eyes were looking at me. " Hi, baby girl how are you today?" I asked She just look at me as I through the saddle pad and saddle on her back. I grabbed the cinch from under her girth and looped it through the latigo and secured the saddle. I walked over to her stall and grabbed the bridle. She flexed her head to me. I put the bridle over her ears and bit in her mouth, I fastened the throat latch. I put my foot in the stirrup grabbed the horn and lifted my left leg over the saddle and put it in the stirrup.
Cherokee started walking out the barn on our way to the road as we do every morning. Cherokee and I walk down the road about a mile out, and I see that someone is moving into the house next to our farm. " Looks like someone is moving into that house." I look at the house and it looks like a mother, daughter, father, and son are grabbing things from their car. " Should we ride up there girl? Plus the daughter looks kinda cute from this distance." without me asking anything Cherokee had decided for me and started up the driveway. They looked at us and was probably wondering what was going on.
Once we had reached them I hopped off Cherokee. " Hey, my names Leo and that's my horse Cherokee. We live at the Blue Moon Farm down the road a bit. Sorry for just ridding up your driveway, I wanted to see if you need help with anything I know the woods around here pretty well." They all looked at me in a friendly way. The older woman( the mom I was guessing) had dark brown hair like the son. He looked about to be 17. The daughter looked about my age and she had jet black hair with dark blue eyes. The father had hazel eyes and dark brown hair. The mother started introducing everyone." Hi, I'm Holly, my husband is Brian, our son is john, and our daughter is Aron." a dog came around the house barking and Holly panicked. " If you worried if my horse is scared of dogs shes not. Cherokee is bombproof." I looked at Cherokee and scratched behind her ears. I heard Holly sigh in happiness. " Our dog is named Kodak," Holly said.
" Your and early-bird I take it." Said Brian.
" Only when I have a farm to take care of," I replied
"Could you help us move some of the boxes we have? It would help out a lot." Holly asked.
"Ya, any time you need me to help if I'm free I will help you. What boxes do you need moved, and to were?" I asked They showed me around " Don't you want to tie your horse up or something so she does not wonder?" Aron asked. Her voice was like honey it sounded so sweet. I had thoughts in my mind but I pushed them back. " Na she will stay there she might walk around the driveway but she won't go in the yard or anything. It just means I have to give her more treats once we are done today." I said. Aron laughed. This may be a new beginning of my life.
