Ariana
As the bell rang kids got out of their desks and walked out of the classroom. As everyone cleared Vikki started to stand up and leave just as I did. But then he spoke. "Nuh-uh. Vik. Ariana. You guys have detention with me."
"What?" I demanded. He smiled charmingly and patted two desks up front. "Up here you two. I don't bite. Just five minutes." I scowled and sat up in the front with his back to me. Then abruptly- and I mean abruptly as in Superman quick abruptly- he was by my side. With an envelope opener. That sliced my wrist. I flinched at the sting of the scarlet slit. "What the hell?"
I tried to take my wrist away but he was really strong. Not that I wasn't really weak. He held a finger up and murmured, "Just a second . . ." Fear skittered through me as the open wound faded. I pulled my wrist way with more force and got my hand away. But I knew he let me since he saw what he wanted to see. I knew my eyes must have been round as I looked away from him. I looked back up.
"Are you going to tell? Call the police or a scientist?" He was smirking. "No. You're one of us." He motioned towards himself and Vik. When I looked at her she looked pissed. "What happened to settle Jake?" He shrugged, "Didn't like it." She sighed. "She's my friend!"
"Okay. What's going on?"
She sighed again. "We call ourselves the Chosens. We all have gifts.” Jake added, “And we’re not talking Christmas gifts or anything like that.” She continued, “We’re talking powers. We both have one," she explained. "My gift is healing too. I'm a Healer. Just like you. And Jake . . ." Her voice trailed as she gave Jake that you’re an idiot look as he sniffed a marker. I probably was too. "Probably became a teacher by compulsion." He looked up giving her a pointed look. Vikki smiled sweetly. "Jake is an Influencer." She said Influencer supper perkily, it was almost sarcastic. "Plus he also has heightened senses and movements. He's stronger, faster, dumber," she added. Jake was nodding and then had a confused look as she referred to his I.Q. I couldn't hold in my laugh. But I managed to get it down to a giggle.
"Okay. I've had enough of your sarcasm and lies."
"He's right. I was lying. I'm almost completely sure you got in here with compulsion." Jakes eyes narrowed.
"So . . . there are more of us?" I asked shocked.
They both nodded.
"But none of them are probably as hot as me," Jake said cockily giving me one of his half smiles. I decided that smiling would be encouraging him so I just blinked. "Here's an idea," he started. "Why don't you guys become roomies? Since Vik here doesn't have one. I mean you guys willl have plenty of fun. Scary stories, brushing each other's hair, Russian roulette games, naked pillow fights." He smiled seductively almost. I raised my eyebrows and Viiki made a noise of disgust before throwing something at him. He flinched.
"Wait . . . roomies? No, I live at home," I informed him.
"Your parents didn't tell you?"
"Excuse me?" I replied dumbly.
"Private school. Spend the night school. What did you think that large extra building was? An improved Teacher's Lounge?" Jake quipped. "Jake . . ." Vikki had a warning tone to her voice. He smiled, "Better find a room before all the good ones are taken."
"Good idea," Vikki murmured. She stood up and cocked her head towards the door. "You coming?" I blinked. "Um . . . yeah." I put my book bag over my shoulder as I stood up. I walked past Jacob and our eyes met for a brief moment. I followed after Vik and we found a room.
