Chapter 1 (Cody)

The fire crackled and spat monstrously as we sat huddled together, trying to find an inch of warmth. Shrivelled faces and sunken eyes. People with blood covering their body's and others with nasty scars.

No one spoke, scared to break the silence; frightened that something bad would come through the battered door. It's slow laboured breathing edging closer towards us; the thud of its feet; the creaking of the cracked floorboards, and then it would...
NO STOP.

Nothing was coming to get us we were still alive. We were not dead. Yet....

But this fantasy seemed perfectly plausible and completely rational, compared to what crazy things were going on outside; where the rain was beating the crooked roof of this shelter like a herd of thundering animals.

Whilst, cold-eyed doctors in labs surveyed people in a long queue. These people were just waiting. I'm still not exactly sure what for. Their lifeless bodies standing slumped over. One by one they are called and they go through the doors and then they return. Return as..... Return as....

Something that's impossible.

Something that I didn't know that we could do.

Something that defies every single law of science you've ever learned, in every single class you've gone to.

And as my imagination tried to get my head around what could have been happening to these people, my eyes flickered to the window and the rain was turning red.

The rain was no longer rain. It was blood. The blood of those that have died before me and of those that will die later.

The blood was pounding over our heads as we sat there; hiding from the world. Hiding from death

_:_:_:_;_;

It wasn't always like this. I mean In some places it had been quite like this.

Places in a never ending state of war, countries, cities and towns riddled with famine and disease.

People scared to go out of their homes. Global warming, threat of nuclear war, lack of water.

Bad things happened and it seemed that every year more and more bad things did. But what had sent the world over the edge, was when The Transformation Group was formed. It's main goal? To tackle the Earths problems and try to reduce the amount of human waste.

They invented many useful tools and objects to improve the earth. People loved them, finally, humanity was coming together and changing the world for better. You could say they were 'Transforming' it.

Soon the Transformation Group had taken over the world. Almost everything people owned was made by them. They were more powerful then all the governments put together.

They were known as the savours of Earth, they were legendary. A group of young scientists that had so much brain power and were so clever. They were everything. Until one day, they stopped selling their products. They disappeared.

People were angry and confused at first. How could the literal super heroes of the Earth just suddenly go missing? How were the public supposed to cope without them?
They had well and truly disappeared. At least, everyone thought they had.

One by one people started to go missing. Just like the Transformation Group had done. One day they were there and the next, vanished off the face of the planet. People didn't understand what was going on. Where were all these people going? How do that many people even vanish?

That was before the 'disappeared' started appearing again. They came back but when they came back they were different. VERY different. Soon those who weren't different started to fall sick with a deadly virus. People were in a state of panic and when I say panic I mean PANIC.

During this time a company called GT power emerged. They were said to have created the cure. The cure ~ changing the entire course of the human DNA.

No one really new who GT power were and nobody was sure that they could be trusted to be cured. But they went to them for help. Then others followed suit and then most people were going to them to get fixed.
They changed the people; they made them different. Human but yet not quite human.

Soon most people were changed. Those not, like me, started to flee but the changed people (if you could call them people) tracked us down dragged us to join the queue. That long never ending queue.

Some of us escaped. Among those that did, was me a scrawny teenager, with absoloutely no hope of surviving.

But I was here in a shelter surrounded by hundreds of strangers. So far I had made it.
