Italicize means their thoughts.
I woke up on Monday with a flu. My head felt as if someone had shaken it until my brain was thoroughly bruised. There were ringing in my ears and sharp pain in my muscles. 'What a perfect way to start in the semester, and in a new school, on my first year!'.
One week later, I was finally able to attend classes. The hallways seemed busier, and the students seemed less friendly. 'I guess in one week they all talk to each other and made their own little groups.' As the bell rang, the teacher walked in, then introduced me. "Alright class, we have a new foreign student. Please come in, then introduce yourself." I walked in and wrote my name on the board. "Good morning, my name is Satomi Haley. Nice to meet you all."
I bowed after my introduction. When I stood up, everyone were looking at me. Their eyes were judging if I was going to be one of the popular kids or an outcast. The teacher then showed me my seat. "You can take the free seat next to Sawamura. He can show you around later, right Sawamu-". The teacher paused when he saw the boy sleeping. "Oi! Sawamura!" When the teacher yelled, Sawamura stood up in one movement. "YES BOSS!"
The whole class bursted into laughter, and Sawamura took his seat, making sure he sat correctly. I giggled at his funny actions. I went to my seat beside Sawamura. He was looking directly at the board.
-4 minutes later-
I found out that Sawamura was a nice person. During all classes, he shared the textbooks with me and was helpful. During lunch break, he proposed to go to the cafeteria, which will be a chance to show me around school.
As we walked down the hallway, Sawamura and I talked about baseball. He was enthusiastic.
"You sure know a lot about baseball, Satomi!"
"My father taught me when I was younger. I also played softball in middle school."
He was listening all ears to every word that came out of my mind. To be honest, he looked cute. A cute idiot. We were eating, when a short pinkette guy came to us. "Eijun-kun, hello?" He then looked at me and bowed. "Hello my name is Kominato Haruichi, nice to meet you."
I stood up from my seat, and bowed. "Nice to meet you Kominato-kun. I'm Satomi Haley."
"Satomi has a lot of knowledge when it comes to baseball! The daughter of the legend Satomi Okichi!"
Kominato looked amazed. "That's great! Do you also play?"
I shook my head. "I used to play softball."
"If you want, you could come to our practice after classes. Everyone will be happy to see you there." Kominato said with an excitement voice.
"Thanks for the offer."
But the smile I show from the outside, can't adequately reflect what I feel inside. I grew to hate the baseball world, because of an injury my father had. It was a long time ago. My father was injured because he had an arm injury. After my father was injured, our life turned into a living hell as he became depressive and lost the will to live. My mother and I, struggled a lot. It was harsh, but somehow, we were able to survive. That is when my hate of baseball developed.
