"Miss Ninelie?"
"What is it?"She caught me by surprise again. Seriously, do people know how to get my attention around here?
I sometimes forget why I even took this job. Fuck the human resources division, and fuck this company.
"You're gonna be late for the briefing."
Damn, she really doesn't let up. For a supervisor, she takes her job too seriously.
"On my way, Rosa. I have my files ready."
"Then follow me."
Her voice irritates me. So much. Everytime I hear her, it's hands she's looking for. If I have to beat her into the ground to do my job, I will.
These hallways are super long. And her heels are clacking super obnoxiously on the wooden floor. Good quality wooden floors, mind I say. Why does she wear such gaudy heels? Flats are way more comfortable. Even if it's not business appropriate. Who even cares, there isn't a group of people dedicated to looking at my feet.
"Ugh." And sigh. "My feet hurt."
"You say that while you wear flats? Perhaps you should be a runner for the files. It helps your strength."
Fuck you Rosa.

"Ninelie and Rosa, you are on time. Commendable, given your history."
"Thank you, sir." We both say it just so we don't get on his bad side. Even though he's my father. I didn't really see my father as this scary until I got in.
"You may leave, Rosa."
Finally, she leaves. I don't need to see her for the next who-knows-how-long.
"Anyways, Ninelie, I have a task for you. You did look into the files?" I dunno why, but he's twiddling his fingers nervously like I don't check my files.
"Yeah. I did, father."
"You do realize you're going to mentor him, right?"
"Wait, me?"
So much for being in HR. I hate it here.
"I don't know who else to trust. You're my daughter, so why not give it to you?"
"Why not Rosa? She's annoying as hell."
I heard heels click outside as I say that, and my soul dropped into my fucking stomach. If she eavesdropped on us, I'm shooting her.
"She's a supervisor for your branch. And also, I believe he's more compatible with you. You two would make a great team together." He's spinning in his rolling chair right now. Big mood.
Ugh. Not this again. I thought fathers kept hook-ups out of the workplace.
"Dad, are you really trying to get me with someone right now?" As soon as I say that, his eyes widen. Great. He's probably gonna yell at me.
"Of course I'm not. I promise, my dear."
Then explain why you're looking around and clenching your teeth, dad.
"Whatever. Maybe I got this, dad. I'll find his booth sooner or later."
"I do expect a report by the end of today."
Ugh. Whatever, reports aren't too bad.
And just like that, I walk out. Easy stuff. Do I look presentable? Hair, shirt, skirt, got it. I do look tired as hell though. Whatever, doesn't matter.
Just let me find this man. For once, I just have to deal with this guy's BS for the next few hours, and I'll be on my way.
If there's one thing I'm bad at, it's putting faces to names. I'm sorry my eyes look dead all the time. And I'm sorry that most people nowadays looks like every other bitch. I really don't need anyone to tell me that I suck at memorization. Literally, no. Just don't.
Hey, there's one guy whose head sticks out from the booth. Nice hair too. I'm short but he stands out. Maybe he stands out more to me because I'm short. No clue.
I double check the form, and yeps. Right booth and all. Whoever this guy is, please be a tolerable person. Like literally, it shouldn't be that hard. There's a reason why you're in Human Resources.
On cue from my footsteps, he turns around in his chair.
Fuck, he's hot. Like, really hot. Like... how do I explain this?
He is that bitch. Because he surely dresses like it. He's stunning. I can't pin it down. His vibe is like... elegant and feral. I really don't get this guy.
Dad, if you're reading this (which he can't cause this is what's going in in my head), you're hooking me up on purpose, aren't you?
"Oh shit." Was that loud? I'm not allowed to say that...
"Heard that, miss."
SHIT! Literally he's one step ahead of me. At this point, I'm literally about to kill myself.
Hand shake. Do a handshake. Yeah. "My name is Ninelie Waters. Nice to meet you, uhh..."
"Jackal Niers. A pleasure to meet you."
He has a strong ass grip. Looks like he's a bit rough on the edges.
His eyes are silverish. His hair is like, grayish-brown? I can't tell. He looks young. Must have dyed it or something.
"I'm waiting for my mentor that was supposed to show up. You know where they are? If you even know about that."
"That would be me." And then I take a big ass sigh. Why is he sneering at me? Literally intimidating me, and I'm supposed to like, boss him around or something, I dunno.
"You? I don't think you look the type to work here."
He's fucking staring me down. Like seriously, what does he want from me?
"This is Human Resources. I'd assume you'd be a little more... hospitable?" I shiver ever-so-slightly.
"I believe that's why they sent a mentor for me." He cocks an eyebrow.
"I guess you're stuck with me for the next 3 weeks. Brace yourself, Jackal."
Whatever coldness in my voice I had previously, it is all gone, cause how do I explain it...
He fucking scares me.
