Percy Jackson was sitting in his kitchen eating blue cookies when he heard the door slam. In walked his stepdad, Gabe. Percy backed up to the wall, ready for the abuse to start. First, Gabe punched him in the face. Percy heard a sickening crunch and felt blood rush down his face. Next, Gabe started kicking Percy all over his body; his head, his legs, his stomach. He was blacking out as Gabe slapped him.
Percy woke up in a cold sweat. He could feel the pain from what happened all those years ago. That was what made his mom finally divorce Gabe. Now, his mom had an awesome boyfriend named Paul. Paul was definitely better than Gabe. Percy was no longer abused. He didn't have to make up excuses as to why he was always beat up.
Percy got out of bed and went to take a shower. After his shower, he got dressed and went downstairs to find his mom making pancakes. Percy's mom, Sally Jackson, always made blue food because Gabe said there was no such thing as blue food. The batter was dyed blue and she had put blueberries in the mix to make blue blueberry pancakes, Percy's favorite.
He sat down at the table while she finished them. After she was done, she set them down on the table and wiped her hands on her apron. " Well, the pancakes are done. Eat up so I can drive you to school," she said.
Ugh, school. Percy thought. He had never liked school because of his dyslexia and ADHD. Yeah, he was smart, but his teachers didn't try to make it easier to read. Some of his friends had dyslexia or ADHD, but never as bad as his. They tried to help him with it, though.
Percy finished his breakfast and brushed his teeth. He grabbed his bag and headed back to the living room. His mom was standing by the door with her coat, keys, and purse. They headed to the car, a Toyota Camry, and she drove him to his school. He got out of the car and walked to the front doors.
