Trigger warning: implications of internalised homophobia

Kyle once just barely tolerated the costume-wearing nimrods that were fanboy and chumchum. However, over time they had begun to grow closer. Speak of the devil the two bounced up to Kyle on the playground as they did everyday. It was less of a hinderance and more of something he looked forward too.
"Hi kyle",fanboy practically shouted with a wide bucktoothed grin.
Him and chum chum hobbled up onto the bench where the ginger sat.
"Whatcha' reading",the shorter of the two inquired, leaning over kyles shoulder at his book of spells.
He slammed the book closed, as his face turned a deep crimson. It didn't matter what he was looking at, that was a tale for another day.
"Don't you ninnies have some better way to waste your time",he sighed, they were only slightly less annoying.
"We're wasting our time with you because we're friends", chum chum replied.
"I suppose I can put up with you for just this once",Kyle said although a small smile rested on his face. He quite enjoyed their company even if he wouldn't say it

Later on that day, the 3 sat at lunch.
Kyle using his powers to prepare a spot of tea, and the other two each opening their selective lunchboxes.
"So what were you looking up in your ol' magic book earlier",fanboy questioned through muffled cheeks.
Kyle sighed, they would find out eventually so it was simply best to tell them now. Albeit vaguely.
"If you must know, I was preparing a potion",he said quickly, staring at his reflection in the pool of earl grey. He often thought he wasn't the type of person who was conventionally attractive, With his hair and teeth both being overgrown.
"A potion for what",chum chum inquired, snapping the boy out of his thoughts.
"Oh you mustn't dwell on it, it doesn't matter anyway",Kyle murmured.
Kyle the conjuror never murmured, what was it in this book that he was so desperate to hide you're probably wondering.
The wizard hid his blush by once again looking down into his tea cup.
Fanboy eyed him suspiciously but spoke nothing of it. The three finished lunch in a comfortable silence. Just enough to drag Kyles thoughts away from his dilemma.

-

Kyles hands shook as he practiced in the mirror,
"Fanboy, would you possibly like to-",he cut himself off with an exasperated groan. He could never get it right could he
"If you aren't busy then maybe-",he stopped again, dragging himself to the ground on his knees.
Just what made him think that the green and purple boy would ever fall for him.
He began to shake at the idea of what people would think, if they were to find out that he-
"Enough of that",he stood up dusting off his nimble frame.
"It's just a phase, I'll simply ignore it", he promptly decided. It was just a phase, wasn't it?
