Prologue

A girl with light brunette hair lays bound to a cold, metal table by thick leather straps. Her heart is pounding so hard she can practically hear it. She takes a deep breath and struggles to get out of the straps.

As she struggles, a man walks in. He smiles at her and holds up a vial of purple liquid. She sobs and pulls more on the straps, but he just ignores her. He pours the liquid into a syringe and walks up to her. He whistles as he pours a clear liquid onto a cotton ball. He dabbed it on her arm, numbing the skin a bit. He inserted the syringe, earning a whimper from the girl.

"Shh, Caroline." He whispers. "My own daughter can't handle a little pain. Don't you think your tolerance is high?"

Caroline lets out several heaving sobs, her whole body shaking.

This was when something awesome happens.

The strap breaks.

The freaking thick, leather strap breaks. She stares at it for a minute, and the straps binding her other hand and her ankles break.

Caroline scrambled up. The air was freezing on her skin, as she hadn't been wearing clothes for the experiments. Her father tsks and shakes his head.

"Get back on the table, darling." He says in his usual smooth tone. She shakes her head violently and picks up the nearest makeshift weapon--a knife.

"No!" She yells, pointing it at him threateningly. The scene around them begins to warp, so much that it looks like a mere watercolor painting, with all the colors blending together. "Let me go!"

"Oh, dear, what are you going to do? Stab me?" He laughs.

That's exactly what she does. Caroline leans across the medical table and plunges the knife into his abdomen. His eyes widen with shock, and he coughs. Her eyes start filling with tears, but she blinks them back. Her expression hardens. This is her first, and hopefully last kill.
