blood.

it was crimson red, spilled all over the floor from a lifeless corpse.

the boy calmly took a glass shard and placed it between the corpse's hand to make it look like it was just another drunkard being stupid and killing themselves. swiftly, he grabbed the bag brimming with cash and hung it loosely over his shoulder.

now, it was time for him to go.

he climbed up the ladder, managing to pull himself up the ladder despite wearing a pair of annoyingly thick gloves. once he got on the rooftop, he followed the small "path" they made back to their house.

speedily, he ran across the rooftops, trampling on the wooden planks they put to connect the rooftop of each building. of the day, running across the neighbourhood from that height gave him an amazing view of the city and the chilly wind around him as he sprinted made him feel so carefree.

but the best part was that he finally could go home to see his beloved boyfriend.

it wasn't long before he reached the rooftop of the apartment complex, taking out a small metal wire from his pocket and picking the lock to the rooftop and getting into the apartment complex.

as he made his way down the stairs to their apartment, he thought about how his boyfriend was probably sitting around in the living room, waiting for him to get back so they could have dinner together.

this was always how life was for the both of them, the older usually the one going on missions and the younger staying at home, only occasionally coming out to help the older.

while it may seem unfair that the older had to do all the dirty work, mark was willing to do anything so that his love would never have to experience the same horrors he faced in the past.

although donghyuck would often tell mark that he was okay with blood once in a while, mark would never let him see it in case it reminded him of his childhood trauma. instead, the only missions donghyuck was allowed to go on with mark were the simple ones such as making a trip to the club to steal some goods.

soon, mark had arrived at the apartment. he hastily unlocked the door and strutted into the apartment with a light smile plastered on his face.

"you're back," donghyuck lifted his head upon hearing the soft pattering of his beloved boyfriend.

mark sauntered over to his boyfriend and gave him a soft peck on the cheek. donghyuck turned his head to face the elder male as he returned the kiss, but this time on the lips.

"i'll wash up and then we can eat dinner," mark said before trotting over to the bathroom.

nodding, donghyuck made his way to the kitchen and carried the plates of pasta that he made a while earlier over to the dinner table.

the younger male positioned himself at the table, eagerly awaiting for mark to try the pasta he had made.

soon, a shirtless mark shuffled out of the bathroom with a head of damp hair. even though donghyuck had seen the elder male without his shirt countless of times, his face would still heat up.

"oh my goodness, put on a shirt!" donghyuck muttered.

"it's just for a while, sunshine," mark replied nonchalantly.

"whatever, eat up," donghyuck huffed.

mark immediately sat down and helped himself to the sumptuous plate of pasta.

"mark?" donghyuck said out, trying to sound confident.

"yes?" mark responded, a hint of confusion evident in his tone.

"we need to talk," donghyuck spoke nervously.

anxiousness bubbled in mark's chest as he stared at his lover with much uneasiness. he fiddled around with the utensils timidly. he could feel something heavy in his gut, like an enormous boulder weighing him down.

"...i always feel very scared when i send you out of the house to do your missions. i just can't but feel paranoid and i always wonder if the next time you step out of the house will be the last time i ever see you again. i just don't want to lose you," donghyuck mumbles, almost inaudibly.

"i've already lost her, i don't want to lose you too, mark. your job is extremely dangerous, i know you're doing it for our and the other two's good but..." donghyuck trails off.

mark gently placed his hand over the younger male's to assure him. mark said, "you don't have to worry. i'll be cautious, i've always been. i have never failed any of my missions, or gotten close to being caught by anyone."

"there's a first time for everything! i...i..." donghyuck blurts out breathily, tears brimming in his eyes.

"sunshine," mark said.

donghyuck lifted up his head shakily to meet eyes with his boyfriend.

"i know that i can't assure you that i'll be safe all the time, but i can definitely assure you that there's no way in hell i'll put myself in danger if i know it means never seeing you again," chuckling sadly, mark continued with a small smile, "i love you so much, you know that right?"

without waiting for donghyuck's reply, mark continued to ramble on, "i can't imagine life without you, sunshine. you're everything to me and-"

letting out a soft chuckle that cut mark off and made mark's heart go crazy at the same time, donghyuck smiled warmly. he stood up and pulled mark into a hug, burying his face into his chest and mumbled, "i trust you,"

arms wrapping snugly against the tanned male's body, mark looked at his adorable boyfriend, his one and only love, with adoring eyes. he replied with a smile on his face as he felt his boyfriend tighten the hug, "thank you, sunshine."
