Princess Cindy

I know you've heard the story before of the girl with the fairy godmother, a glass slipper and some helpful animal friends but have you ever wondered what the real story was behind the dream? That dream was mine and I'm finally ready to tell my real story. My name is Cinderella but my friends call me Cindy. I live with my step-mother and her two twisted, mean daughters Drizella and Anastasia. I've been doing anything and everything I can to find a way out with little luck. But hopefully that luck will change soon.

You see I'm not just a step daughter to them. I'm also laundry maid, dishwasher, scullery maid, post woman, errand runner, and their own personal doormat; sometimes quite literally. Once a while back when we were younger Drizella took to using the hem of my dress to pat her shoes on as we came in the door of the house together and naturally Anastasia did whatever her big sister did. Planning my escape won't be easy. Step Mother keeps a close eye on me like a hawk and never lets me go anywhere but I have a plan to even bypass that.

Every morning Step Mother sends me into the market to buy some fresh eggs and milk for the day. She gives me just enough to buy what she needs and never a cent over. But what she doesn't know is about three months ago I met someone. A boy named Edmond. He's the son of the baker on the far edge of the market and each day I've been meeting him underneath the oak tree just outside the town. As I'm walking I see his brown hair come into view and my heart flutters instantly.

"Cindy, my beautiful princess" He greets me as soon as he sees me with a smile before pulling me in for a hug.

"Edmond, oh how I missed you. It feels like the nights are getting too long" I sigh as I return his hug. He smiles down at me before furrowing his brow into a more serious look. "Did you get it?" He asks me quietly. I hold out my shaking hand exposing a silver pendant with an emerald inside. "Yes, it was my mothers. It should sell for enough to get us out of here."

"CINDERELLA" I hear my step mother's voice from behind me and my bones shutter but I am instantly filled with rage. I turn to face my step mother and see her raging towards me. I've finally had enough. I will get out of here today.

"I AM NOT YOUR SLAVE. I AM LEAVING." I scream at her. I take Edmond's hand and bold into the forest and run as fast as we can to the buggie he hid for us weeks ago in planning for this day. For years I've wanted to leave and have been too afraid to. Today, I finally became my own hero.
