"It isn't connecting..." The blonde's voice trailed off as she tried to do everything she could to reconnect the video in order to talk to Lucas.
"It will work eventually." Farkle reassured her. The pair were the first two to arrive for their friend group dinner date. Smackle and Riley were getting ready together and heading downtown in ten minutes.
"This wifi is shit."
"I still can't get over what just happened."
"I know!" Farkle had been by Maya's side throughout the entire conversation she just had with Lucas. He was anxiously peaking over her shoulder, unsure if she would get mad at him for doing so, but she didn't mind.
"Hello? Should I hang up and try again?" Suddenly, the boy's audio kicked in and Maya's eyes lit up as Lucas' face appears across her phone screen.
"Nope! I can see you, can you see me?"
"I can see you now. Hello, Beautiful!"
"Hello there yourself, Handsome." Farkle chuckled, causing the couple to laugh.
"What's up?"
"I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry in person— this is the closest I can get to in person for now."
"You don't have to keep apologizing, Lucas."
"Yes, I do, and I wanted you to hear it from me and know that I meant it."
"You're so sweet."
"—And I wanted you to hear me say that I love you again. Because you deserve to hear it every single day and I gotta make up for lost time."
"Stop it." She giggled, trying to hid her blushing cheeks within her hooded sweater.
"What are you guys up to?" Lucas couldn't help but smile as he looked at her. It had been far too long since they last spoke.
"We're getting together to have dinner. We're at a cute little restaurant. Smackle and Riley are on their way."
"Have you ate there before?"
"Yeah, a few times with my mom, but that's pretty much it. Why?"
"Would it be a good spot for our first date?"
"My only complaint would be the breadsticks. They're a little rough." Farkle winced as he tapped the appetizer on the side of the table. The two laughed again.
"I wouldn't mind that. I had a few other ideas in mind too. There's a lot of things we have to do."
"Ew, get a room."
"Hey!" Maya playfully slapped the boy's arm. "I meant things like taking him to see the Statue of Liberty, going to Central Park, visiting the coffee shop from Friends."
"I would love all of that."
"See, he gets it?" Maya addresses Farkle again.
"I'm going to have to talk to my mom about another trip. We'll probably have to plan it for once school ends, so it will be after graduation."
"Don't mention it. I don't even want to think about finals. I've been studying nonstop."
"I'm always here if you need help." Farkle quietly added, earning a smile from Maya.
"I'll get to see you eventually."
"Summer isn't that far away. I think I can wait a little longer."
"I'll let you guys go so you can enjoy your dinner."
"You're the best, Lucas."
"I love you too, Maya."
"Talk to you later!"
AUTHOR'S NOTE — To my American readers, your last big tests of the school year, do you call them finals? Did I get that right? In my part of Canada, we call them exams, so I wasn't really sure. If I get any responses and I'm wrong, I'll be sure to correct myself! Also, let me know if you can see the picture or not! I had trouble with a picture not loading in one of the last chapters, so I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Stay safe everyone, I love you! ♡
