Presenting chapter 4...... But first, a recap.

Recap:

I walked along the edge of the pavement, not willing to step onto the grass in case I get more 'warm welcomes'. I had to suck it up. This is my job. To protect these children. To protect this school. I can't be a baby and not do things just because I'm not comfortable. I inspected the fields and managed to get to the parking lot without any interruptions, but just as I was almost finished my inspection, someone just had to disturb me.

Chapter 4:

"KATRINAA!!!!!!!!!!" I whipped my head around and quickly reached for the knife at my waist. "Woah, chill girly. So what'cha doin' here?" I relaxed a bit. It was just Stroke. He was one of my best buddies/rivals back at the base. He was wearing a black fitted t-shirt and black pants with military boots. I guess he was a guard here. Wait a minute.... Did he call my Katrina? Oh my goodness.

"DUDE! IT'S CHELSI NOW. Are you tryin'a blow my cover? I'm the 'new student'," I whisper yelled at him while frantically looking around to see if anyone heard us. He was quite loud, that moron. Nope. no one within earshot. I let out an exasperated sigh before turning to face Stroke again. "Plus, aren't you supposed to be hiding?" I added on with a slight smirk. At the mention of his job, his face turned red.

"Oh yea...... Whoops!" he replied cheekily before running back to his little hiding space. All the while I was pointing and laughing at him.

"What are you laughing at, freak?" I jumped at the sudden voice. Gosh, I'm letting my guard down a lot today. Oh well. Everyone has their bad days, and today was mines. I turned towards the voice and saw Marcus standing there with his arms crossed over his chest and an annoying smirk plastered on his face.

"Oh. I was just talking to my ghost friends and they told me a funny joke," I replied nonchalantly and walked off. I could have sworn I heard chuckling from where Stroke ran off to. Marcus just stood there confused, probably trying to process what I just said.

"YOU FREAK!" Marcus yelled at me from where I was standing before. I was a good 50 metres away now.

"I turned around and shouted as loud as I could, "IT'S OKAY MARCUS. THERE'S NO NEED TO BE EMBARRASSED. I'M SURE A LOT OF OTHER EIGHTH GRADERS BELIEVE IN THE TOOTH FAIRY TOO!" I saw a few heads snap to our direction. Good. That means I was loud enough. Gosh, I am so childish. I watched as Marcus's expression change from confused to frantic in a matter of seconds.

"WHAT?!?" He was red in the face as he looked around and saw the many people pointing and laughing at him. A sixth grader even came up and hugged him.

"YAY!! If big bad Marcus believes in the tooth fairy, that means I'm not a total loser anymore." I feared that Marcus might explode from all the blood in his head. His face was as red as a ripe tomato. I couldn't say that I was bright red as well, because I was. I was dying with laughter. You know the term ROFL? Well that was exactly what I was doing. I was rolling over from laughter. Yea....

When I finally calmed my laughing fit into a simple giggle fit, I saw Jamie hovering above me with a confused smile. Oh yea..... I totally forgot I was 50 metres away from the Marcus scene. Ah well. I stretched my arms out towards him and he quickly got the message to help me up.

"You're kind of heavy for your size," he remarked. I wonder if he was so blunt all the time. If he was, I wouldn't mind hanging out with this kid. As to my weight, the added padding, stop-weights, and hidden weapons tend to weigh me down. Stop weights are like mini weights I put in my shoes, make my bangles out of, and strap on to my waist to slow my movements. All those add around 40lbs to my weight, but I can still manage to move normally with them. I had to put more on to ensure that I didn't ruin my cover. I would blame the weights on my lack of height, but I'd just be lying to myself. I stopped growing in grade 7, before I even had to worry about any of this.

I guess I wasn't speaking for a long time, or long enough for Jamie to think something was wrong. Or maybe because I frowned when thinking about my past. Either one of those could have resulted in the following outburst by Jamie. "Oh! I'm so sorry. It just kind of slipped out. I'm sorry. I, uh, sorry," he struggled to apologize, probably thinking I was offended by his comment. Wow. How he was off. I cracked a smile and Jamie immediately stopped his stuttering, and looked at me confused.

"No worries. It's horrible enough that I'm small. If I weighed nothing too, I'd just be blown away by the wind!" He seemed much more relaxed now that I assured him I wasn't offended. It's still adorable how he speaks his mind, even if it's by accident.

"Thank goodness. My manhood doesn't really like getting kicked. And being slapped is getting kind of tir-" he cut himself off when he saw me staring at him with a bemused expression. So he does make blunt comments a lot. His cheeks flared and a light pink color formed.

"No worries. Your face and manhood shall not receive any harm from me." He flushed a darker shade of pink. I smiled and walked away. He caught up quickly and walked alongside me. He was looking at me out of the corner of his eyes but I would pretend I didn't notice, for the sake of his sanity.

"Sooo...," he began. I gave him a look that said 'continue'. "You aren't going to beat me up?" What did he mean by that? He continued explaining, "You know... What you said when you introduced yourself?" Ah! Oh facepalm. How could I forget? Ah wells.

"Nah. I like you. You're a good ki-person." I gave him a big smile, hopefully to cover the fact that I almost said 'kid'. That got an immediate reaction out of him, but I can't say I wanted this reaction. He blushed and looked away. Great. I just made life even more uncomfortable for this kid. I forgot I was talking to a middle school-er. I can just hope Jamie doesn't take it as me actually liking liking him. Gosh. What am I even thinking? Being back at this school is turning me into a child. Either that, or I really get into character. I'll go with the former, cause it makes me seem less strange. Yes, yes.

After a few moments of awkward silence, the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch. We were still quite a distance away from the grade eight doors, so I grabbed Jamie's arm and started to run. Hmmm. I guess this is how Diane felt like when she dragged me down the hallways. Quite exhilarating, actually. "WAIT!" I shouted just as the teacher was about to close the doors. She gave us both disapproving glares but let us in anyways.

As I began walking to class, I lost Jamie's presence. I turned to find that he was still at the door, bent over, trying to catch his breath. I jogged back to him and watched as he took in huge breaths of air, trying to fill his lungs again. I couldn't offer him a piggy back ride; that would look strange. After a few minutes, he finally regained his breath. "You run fast," he stated. I didn't bother saying anything to that. Mental note: must add more weights on.

We walked to class slowly. We were already late anyways. Jamie kept looking at me. After a while of trying to ignore it, I couldn't take it anymore. I shot him a questioning look and he quickly turned away, a blush forming, and muttered something under his breath. This can not turn out well. Hopefully, what I think he's feeling towards me is incorrect. Cause if it's not, it would just be wrong.
