A couple of weeks had passed since Liz moved into the house next door to Atticus. Liz quickly got kind of popular in their school. She got along with everyone and everyone liked her. She had made many friends and joined the swimming team as well as the drama club. She spends a lot of time in school and comes home in the evening every day. Atticus always sees her coming home from his window while he is reading books. He showed her around on the first day but since then they hardly saw each other since they only had one class together. Atticus thought about talking more with her. In his opinion, they got along really well the first day they meet. In fact, after he and his family were at her house, they had spent the rest of the day together talking. They took their bikes and rode them around town and Atticus enjoyed that. He didn't have that much fun in a long time but now he was to shy to talk to her. She was always busy talking with her friends in school which he knew didn't like him that much so he didn't want to talk to her in school. And at home, he felt like if he just walked over there when she came home, he would maybe annoy her while she wanted to relax from the day she had. So instead of talking to her he just did what he did before she moved here, just read his books and stay out of trouble. He didn't expect that anything would change and he was happy about that. He wasn't made for any kind of attention which is why he decided it would be best to be alone and not really make friends with anyone. He was sitting in his room again reading 'Journey to the centre of the earth' it was a classic and one of his favourites. He loved the way Jules Verne wrote and enjoyed every book he wrote. Whenever he read one of his books he could go into a completely different world and life all those adventures he knew he never could in real life. He imagined himself as the main person and didn't have to be the person he was. He was able to escape his real-world which was the reason for him to read books. He never liked his life. He was hurt many times by a lot of people and learned to hardly trust anyone.

After he finished the book and closed it, he realised it already has gotten dark. He took a look at his clock and realised it was already 11 pm. A small sigh came out of his mouth and he put the book back into his shelve next to all his other books. He went downstairs to grab a glass of water and get an apple since he missed dinner because he was reading. After finishing his water and the apple, he went back upstairs and decided to go and sit outside for a while which is why he opened his window and climbed out on top of the roof of his house. He often came out here to watch the stars and once again escape into a different reality which in this case was his fantasy and imagination. While he was sitting there and watching the beautiful clear night sky, he imagined what would happen if he just left his town. He could take some of his stuff and go anywhere he'd like. Especially whenever his truck would be ready to drive, he could just leave his life and start a new one in a completely different town. He would change his name into Ned like one of the protagonists from 'twenty thousand leagues under the sea', another one of his favourite books. He would go somewhere where it wasn't too cold. Somewhere it would always be warm. He would look for a cabin next to a hidden lake where no one would go. He would grow his own food and make everything possible on his own. He didn't want to have to depend on other people like he had to now. Maybe he would adopt a cat so he had someone in the house. He'd probably name the cat Phileas. While imagining what his life could be like he didn't notice that Liz had climbed on top of his roof and sat next to him. The houses were connected through a garage so it was easy to climb from one roof to the other. "It's such a nice night tonight isn't it?" Atticus got scared and jumped a bit and almost slipped and fell off the roof. "Jesus Christie, what the hell are you doing here?" Liz chuckled. "I saw you from my window and decided to join you. I'm sorry for scaring you Att" She smiled and Atticus sat back down next to her. "Well, next time don't come up here like a ninja so I won't notice you. You know I could have died right now" he laughed a bit and straight away felt the connection between him and Liz which he felt as well the first day they meet. "Just stop spending all day in your head and you might as well notice me sometimes." Liz rolled her eyes and laid on her back, looking up at the stars. "what is that supposed to mean?" Atticus looked her with a confused face. "I tried to talk to you in school but you always left when I was going your way. I tried talking to you in our English class as well but you just sat there starring at the teacher and didn't react to anything so a) you want to avoid me or b) you just never notice anything" Atticus eyes grew bigger in disbelief. "you tried to talk to me? Oh, I'm- I'm sorry I didn't notice. To be honest, I kind of thought you didn't want to talk to me.." his face got a red shade but luckily it was dark so Liz wasn't able to see it. "why wouldn't I want to talk to you? You're fun. I like you Att. How about we meet up here every evening? I'm pretty busy in school with everything so I don't really have that much time there but we could walk there together and then meet up here as well alright?" she smiled and looked in his eyes at the same time Atticus was looking into her eyes. Softly he nods and smiles. "so now that that is out of the way, what are you even doing out here?" Atticus lays down next to her and answers, "sometimes I just come out here to.. to think. I love how quiet it gets at night. Everything seems at peace.. It seems like no one has any worries. Usually, it's just me and the moon and the stars which is nice.. sometimes I like to imagine how my life could be, you know my life is not quite exciting. It is rather boring and I often don't really know what to do. So Imagining how it could look like if I changed a few things is nice.. A great way to escape.. to escape everything" while talking he had turned his head away from Liz and he was looking up again. "you know.. sometimes moments, where you can just do nothing and.. and stare at the sky and not being bothered by anyone, are the best." He looks back at her. "that sounds like you're bothering me right now, which is not what I meant" "Oh don't worry I got what you meant. It's nice to be able to just let your mind flow. Not thinking about any stress you have. Just.. just be free and let your mind be free." She looks at him and for a moment both of them felt safe. They felt like nothing could hurt them right now, while laying next to each other, looking into each other's eyes and feeling like they saw each other souls. Blue and green. Neither of them spoke. They just enjoyed the moment. Neither of them wanted this moment to end, they wanted to stop time and lay there forever. just the two of them in this peaceful night. But it had to end because time would never stop. Liz sat back up again and so did Atticus. "It's getting pretty late.. I should go back in and get some sleep. I'll see you tomorrow at eight if you still want to go to school together. Don't be late Att". She smiled and softly hit his shoulder and then made her way back into her room and after a few minutes, the light got turned off.

Atticus let a sigh slip out of his mouth and looked back up into the stars. He was confused but happy. He didn't expect her to want to talk to him, to be friends with him or to even like him. Softly he smiled and made his way into his room. He put his shirt and his jeans into his washing basket, brushed his teeth and jumped into his bed and stared at the ceiling. All he could think about was her. Her green eyes which were capable of putting him into a trance, the way she spoke and the things she said, her confidence and her ability to make everyone around her happy. He admired her and aspired to maybe change himself through her and maybe become a bit like her. He closed his eyes and quickly fell asleep with her still on his mind.
