I let out a dreamy sigh as I watched my best friend and crush spar with Kiba and Akamaru. The way her eyes filled with determination was hypnotic. Her body language changed from an anxious shy mess of a person to a confident kunoichi; one who was so sure of her abilities.
That's of course not to say that I didn't absolutely love her usual shy self; that's who I fell in love with originally anyways. It was just so nice to see her not doubt herself and beat herself up. I let out another sigh as I watched her land a flip; chest heaving from exertion. As I was watching her I couldn't help the pride that swelled up in my chest. She had come such a long way from the scared little girl I first met. She was much stronger, and more skilled.
"When are you gonna tell her?"
I let out a short scream, not expecting someone to be next to me. I put my hand over my chest dramatically and let out a whine. "Don't sneak up on me like that, Kurenai-sensei!" I scolded, causing her to chuckle and shake her head.
"(Y/n), I've been here the whole time. You've just been too caught up in your love-struck little world to realize. You should tell her how you feel." Kurenai-sensei advised, putting a hand on my shoulder. I felt my face heat up and I covered my cheeks to hide the blush.
"W-what feelings? I don't know what you're talking about. Hinata is my best friend and that's it." I glanced to the side, looking at her once more. She gave another low chuckle.
"Oh, please. Everyone knows that you like her, even Naruto brought it up. And you know how slow he is to catch onto these types of things."
I groaned and she removed her hand from my shoulder. I started pacing in front of her, biting my lip. "Even if- and that's a big if- I had feelings for her...she's my best friend. I couldn't ruin that. And even if by some miracle she did return my hypothetical feelings it couldn't work out anyways." I stopped pacing and looked back over to Hinata, a sad smile appearing on my face.
"Why's that?" Kurenai-sensei asked. I let out a self-deprecating chuckle in response.
"Because. She's the heir to the powerful Hyuuga clan. Her father would never let her enter a relationship with someone like me. Especially if that someone was another girl. There's no way. He wouldn't allow it. And I couldn't ask her to abandon her family like that." I got quieter and quieter as I spoke, eyes clouded with sadness. But in the blink if an eye I sprung myself back up. "I'm okay with that though! She's my best friend, and I couldn't possibly ask for more." I looked back at Kurenai-sensei and gave her a close-eyed smile. She smiled back at me, though her eyes were filled with pity. I shrugged it off and turned back around to watch the conclusion of the fight. I had accepted this years ago. It still hurt, sure, but that's just how things were destined to be, I guess.
I let out a loud whoop of encouragement, clapping my hands obnoxiously as the fight came to a finish, with there being no definite winner. I ran over to Hinata, engulfing her in a big hug as I showered her with praise, proud of her for her improvement. "Hina-chan! I'm so proud, you really held your own out there. Not that I would ever doubt you, of course." I rubbed my cheek to hers, causing her to let out a soft giggle.
"Thank you, (Y/n)-chan. It really means a lot to me to hear you say those things." She spoke up, a soft smile gracing her face. Her words caused my face to heat up and I quickly averted my eyes away from her.
"Well yeah! I'll always be your number one supporter, silly." I ruffled her hair and stuck out my tongue before standing up and offering her my hand. "Now lets go celebrate with some ramen!" She beamed and took my hand, letting me help her up. I let go of her hand and started walking ahead of her before turning my head slightly, smirking. "I bet Naruto-kun is gonna be there too, so we better hurry." Her face immediately burned bright red causing me to let out an obnoxious laugh.
