I held onto the edge with both hands, trembling with fear. “Alex!” Connor yelped, holding the piece of wood in front of his face as he sprinted over to me. He dropped the wood on the ground and gripped my hand to pull me up.

My arms ached from holding the edge for so long, but I didn’t have time to linger. I pulled up the grill from the ground and slammed it into the nearest zombie’s face. I followed Connor, who dodged each attack, as he constantly gasped for air.

“Dammit, Connor! Alex!” Jasper yelled through the crowd of zombies, while he clutched a blood-covered stone. I ran over to assist him, but the rain was then pouring so hard I couldn’t tell the difference between the zombies and Jasper and Connor.

A rumble shook the ground, pushing me to the floor. I grunted and hopped back to my feet, just to be slammed back down into the road again, leaving my shoulder bruised and bleeding. My other shoulder was suddenly throbbing, but I refused to glance at the wound.

“ALEX! CONNOR!”

Jasper’s screams where like daggers piercing my skin. Each time I had attempted to get up, I felt my muscles give up on me, and once again bringing me to a helpless state. Finally, I lifted up from the ground. Zombies thrashed past me, ignoring my presence.

What the-?

Not a single zombie lunged toward me, and they pushed past. My body felt numb then, and my heartbeat slowed. Why they where passing me, I didn’t know. Instead of figuring why though, I ran to the sound of screams.

Connor.

Everything looked blurry, but I shook it off as rain and raced to Connor’s screams. “Alex…” Jasper moaned. I looked down, to see him on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood. “Jasper, no…” I bend down and cradled his head in my arms.“At least the zombies don’t notice me, now.” Jasper breathed out, inhaling shortly after. My lips where frozen, and I couldn’t respond as I had watched the life slip out of his eyes.

Jasper was dead.

His eyes where blank and gray, and his body was no longer shaking, as it had before.

“No, Jasper, no…”

Connor was behind me, taking in what had just happened. He threw a punch to a nearby zombie that attacked him. “Alex.” He muttered weakly. “We have to go. Now.”

I felt Jasper’s lifeless body slip off my lap as Connor pulled me away. My vision was foggy, and nothing was that visible anymore. “Why aren’t they attacking you?” Connor said, as he stopped to look at me. Spots of black appeared in my eyes. “I don’t know-” Suddenly, my heart rate increased.

"At least the zombies don’t notice me now"

Jasper was bitten.

I reached over to feel my right shoulder, but it felt like it had dissolved.

Like it had been bitten off.

“Shit!” I scream, ripping out of Connor’s grip. “I was bitten, Connor!”. I attempted to hold my deceased  shoulder. His eyes had a hint of sadness in them, reflecting the stormy gray sky. “Please...no, please, no, Alex, NO!” Connor was crying. Tears where streaming down his cheeks as he took in a shaky breath.

My vision was hazy and practically impossible to see out of, but not because of the rain, or because I had been bitten, but because I was crying.

I looked back up to see Connor, and he shrieked in terror. Both his arms where brutally ripped by two zombies. His knee buckled and he fell to the floor with blood dripping quickly down his body. “NO! CONNOR! NO!” I crawled over, but I couldn’t feel my body.

Another rumble shook the ground, and Connor enveloped my body with his arms.

The last thing I saw was Connor, as we fell.
