This story is inspired by the anime 'Beastars'
The humans in this story have the ability to shapeshift into three different forms - anthropomorphic, and animal. However, most of them stick to their anthropomorphic forms (werebeast). When you are in this form, they will gain half the strength, speed, etc of the specific animal you are able to shapeshift to. At the same time, they will retain some of their human features.
Humans will only shapeshift into their animal form if they want to increase their strength, speed, etc. for advantage or other purposes. For example, a thief would shapeshift into their cheetah form in order to get away since a cheetah is faster than a human. However, no one is usually in this form as modern society and the social norms discourage this.
There are animals that exist in this world too but they are unable to shapeshift. They are called "true animals".
No human can shapeshift into insects, arthropods, or amphibians. Only mammals, birds, and reptiles.
