KHALIL'S POV

Starr nodded her head to what she called the oldies, mindlessly tapping her fingers on her legs.

Her braids framed her face perfectly. Her lips looked oh so soft and they complimented her smile well. Her almond shaped eyes are a delicious deep brown. She's perfect to me. The best kind of beauty, my mother use to say, is the natural kind. The bare skin, the natural body. That's what real men craved. Starr was what I craved, so I must be a real man.

She's so beautiful to me. Not just physically but mentally. She was so smart, and head strong. And even when she hid behind her "proper" accent, and her overuse of big words, she was the same Starr that me and Natasha grew up with. She believed in what she believed in. Nobody could take her beliefs from her. She was unapologetically black. Even though she had to dial it back some at her preppy white school.

"Ok, little Starr Starr! What you know about that Pac?" I said, playfully mocking her rythmic head bop.

"Nah, nigga. What you know bout Pac?" She smiled her beatiful smile, and for once I could understand why Pac said keep ya head up. She was my breath of fresh air.

"Pac was the truth." I said, playfully side eyeing her.

"Yeah, like 20 years ago." She giggled a little.

"Nah, even today." I said a little seriously.

"Really?" She cocked her head sideways.

"Pac said Thug life. T-H-U-G-L-I-F-E. The hate you give little infants fucks everbody." I said.

"Meaning what Natasha queried from the backseat.

"Meaning what society feeds us when we're young comes back to bite them in ass when we grow up and wild out." I shrugged my shoulders, turning on my blinkers so I could switch lanes.

"Is that in reference to black people, or all people?" Starr cocked a perfectly arched brow at me.

"it refers to whatever you want it to refer to. Society feed us the most shit though. So for me, and for Pac, that was in reference to black people." I quickly glanced at her, before continuing down the road.

"Interesting." Starr said, tapping her finger on her thigh mindlessly.
