Third Person POV:
It's the middle of the day as a young girl stands at the end of her driveway. She stays in the cold weather, glaring straight ahead with eyes full of resentment, until she can no longer feel her fingers. After examining the new duplex she and her family will be living in, she decides to head inside.
She heads to the living room and sits on the couch so she faces the window. It's just a couple of days after New Year's and the blanket of snow covering the front lawn is fresh, untouched. It looks perfectly smooth which causes her annoyance to grow. She can't stand change. Having grown up where it was always sunny or sometimes rainy, being in the freezing cold snow was strange and irritating.
With her head leaning against the window, she watched as cars continually passed by while losing herself in her thoughts. There's was unpacking that needed to be done but all she could focus on was that school began tomorrow. It's only been two days since she came to this town and she was already finding things wrong with it.
It was too small. She was accustomed to the city life.
It was too cold. Her wardrobe consisted mostly of tank tops and shorts.
It didn't have any of her friends or extended family here. She was used to seeing them every day.
Now she had to start over. She wouldn't get to enter high school with the friends she's had since kindergarten. She wouldn't get to see her girlfriend anymore. She wouldn't get to see her cousins anymore. Everything was great. She had her routine which she had learned to love and now it was all taken away.
She's never had to worry about being the new kid. She's never had to worry about making new friends because she's had the same ones all her life. She never had to worry about sitting alone at lunch. People have always liked her but what if these kids don't? She stressed over every little detail, letting her anxiety get the best of her. She didn't realize how badly she had been crying until her little sister came to comfort her.
The little girl hugged her until she calmed down. Then the girl opened her mouth to speak, "AJ, mom wants you to get ready." She said. "Why? Where are we going?" "Nowhere," she chuckled, "Mom said we have family coming over. You know the ones she grew up with that we don't know?"
AJ didn't respond but instead left the room to freshen up up so it didn't look like she had been crying. According to her mother, she had a cousin the same age as her living near them. Since they were in the same grade it only made sense she show AJ around school and around town.
AJ felt relieved after hearing this. Now she's knows she won't be completely alone and that someone will help her. It gave her hope that maybe she can learn to like this place and maybe moving would be so bad. But this is real life and soon she would learn not everyone gets their happy ending.
